Inflation generally is annualized, it won't include inflation that happened over 12 months ago. It's an attempt to be "current". I don't have a good feel for "current inflation". The reported figure is 2.4% (CPI).
The most obvious item we see daily is gas prices, which are down quite a bit from the $5 or so back in 2021.
Imentioned the "totchos" at the place next door went from $10 to $15 from 2021 to 2023, but they have stayed at $15 since. That's a single item of course. I don't get a sense restaurant prices have gone up much over the past 12 months.
