I suspect a lot of "traditions" of this general ilk are disappearing, aging out as it were.  One factor could be informational, I don't know of such "clubs" around me.  There is a Midtown Alliance that supports a "meet and greet neighbors" kind of thing, I went once, it was ... not my cup of tea.  Rotary Club?  I could find one, I guess, but I don't really know what they do.  And there is the Groucho comment that is pertinent.

My wife was an active member of Alliance Francais in Cincy, but she says she's not interested here.  I attended a few of their soirees, it was ... not my cup of tea.

I was in a work bowling league ages ago, it had some work advantages as well as being fun.  At night, as you note, the entire lanes were occupied with leagues, at that time mostly folks in their 30s.  I started up a wine tasting event monthly here and did about 6 of them and interest kind of faded, on my part.  I get asked to bring them back at times.  I did the same in Cincy and the thing got way out of hand, for me, I understand it's still going.

I did meet up on line with a group of CFB fans who post about everything under the sun, they are pretty fun.  Mostly.
Like you said, in another era, this place would be a bowling club.

Although now I’m imagining a club where a set of fans just agree to go to a big bar with a lotta TVs and drink/ear/yell at various screens for six hours.

(I live in a bigger city now and there are so damn many meet up groups. I do a running one and 1-2 Jewish ones. Shoot, I saw one where golden retriever owners just meet at a bar’s dog park and chat while dogs run around)

not moving there

I won't pay $4 a pound for bologna
I rarely pay $4 for ground beef
We really need Kroger to get into this market. We have Wynn Dixie, but it's not great. And Aldi only goes so far.

Walmart... it's a no go.

The last true bowling alley in Austin is closing in a year.  A couple of suburbs still have them but they'll eventually die, too.

However, there are several big multi-functional entertainment centers, that have bowling lanes within them.  And pool tables.  And arcades.  And laser tag.  And karaoke rooms.  Sort of like a really big Dave and Buster's with bowling lanes.

And then there are some smaller more intimate social clubs that also have bowling lanes, pool tables, darts, etc.  Typically pretty swanky and very expensive.

It makes sense that a diversified entertainment experience might be a more effective use of space, than a single dedicated large bowling alley.  But it's still sad to see them go.

I never bowled much in my life.  My father was quite a good bowler back in the 60s.  Now several of my sons, between the ages of 21 and 35 are bowlers that bowl regularly in a number of leagues. some are quite qood, other are just average. They didn't get their interest from me, I have no idea where it came from. There are 3 true bowling alleys within a 10 mile radius near where they all live.

The worst thing about the closing bowling alleys in Austin, is that their cafes made some of the best food in the city.  The old Dart Bowl Cafe, made some of the absolute best Tex-Mex enchiladas on the planet.  COVID killed off the bowling alley but I don't think it would have survived much longer anyway.

RIP Dart Bowl enchiladas :'(

Our son in SF is on our Costco account.  We go there pretty often.  They have good wine prices here, and good steaks and seafood and lamb chops.

They expanded the gasoline pumps where we usually go and that has helped a lot too.

I keep looking at their TVs .......
