I don’t know if it’s a matter of “want” at this point. I don’t think any of the four options is anything most of us “want.” Just what we’ll take over other options. 

While I don’t think there’s a good chance at a Biden win, I’d guess it’s better than a late switch, unless you could be ensured the new face just seemed extra normie and the switch didn’t cause too much internal strife. But I don’t think either of those happen.

The fact the Republican bench ended up as weak as it was is sort of wild.
