As the world's largest importer, imported goods hold significant influence over the U.S. economy and lives of everyday Americans. In 2023, the total value of international U.S. imports of goods and services amounted to 3.83 trillion U.S. dollars, marking one of the highest figures observed since the turn of the millennium. While this substantial number of imports helps to keep consumer costs low, there is a long-standing debate in the U.S. around free-trade.

Spending is over $6 trillion.  

So, to balance the budget, we'd need a 150% across the board tariff on imports, and of course such a high tariff would cut imports in half, probably more.

Well, unless I missed it (I didn't fully read the article) he wasn't talking about balancing the budget. And the US Income tax supplies just over 50% of federal revenues. 

But yeah, you'd probably need roughly a 50% tariff on literally everything coming to our shores to replace the income tax entirely.

The BLM Protests accomplished quite a lot. There has been a massive incremental increase in both black homicide deaths and black automotive fatalities.

If we replaced just personal income tax revenue with tariffs, they'd need to be around 75% or so, before imports massively dropped of course.
