The science says its safe to send kids backs to school but many red states have ignored this
So have many blue states. Much of CA is still not back at school. I'm lucky that my kids are.

Yes, when you have 50 different states with different ideologies will yield an array of adhesion to "the science."
.
Another reason why it'd be cool if a scientifically literate leader of a country would dictate measures to combat a virus that knows no borders.

To the Republic, for which it stands.

At this point I'd settle for a literal leader, as opposed to a puppet.

I like how folks throw around "heed the science" as if somehow "science" has all the right answers all the time.  I'm pretty sure virologists and public health experts out there disagree about how we should handle COVID.  There is no magical single voice called "science" in much of anything.

Dissension is a critical aspect of "science".  You heed the best advice you can find appropriate for your state or local situation.

A governor should "heed" expert opinions about his state's situation.  There is no one size for all obviously.

I'm not sure much really changed in Texas anyway.  I'd bet those small somewhat isolated towns in west Texas did their own thing the whole time.

If the vaccine provides some resistance to the new variants, I think we'd be "OK" here and not have another wave.

There were too many in my view.  I don't need a group of four people pointing the way when there are signs galore.  It's useful to have someone telling you where to park and which level to walk to, fine, and maybe a couple more at odd points, but not groups of four times about six.

The process was efficient, just over  staffed.

The wife went to the Board of Health on back and traffic control there was ridiculous and pointless.  They made every car stop and tell someone 2 or 3 times why they were there, so traffic was backed up.  There was ample parking.  Maybe you ask once and point them to the lot, fine.

Cincy,

What type of guidance would be useful to you and your wife now that you are vaccinated?

things like: should I still wear a mask?  Should I still wash my hands?  should I check for certain symptoms or reactions from the vaccine?

Exactly.
When so much is unknown, it's best to be cautious.  But you can't that to the people who shrug at the uncertainty and just go on about their lives as usual.

Back in the olden times, those were the ones who'd test out the rope bridge first.  I think it's called earning a Darwin Award.
