We saw Jagged Little Pill yesterday.  I HATE jukebox my musicals, and it was overly preachy, even by Broadway standards.  But given those two major caveats, I enjoyed it for what it was.  The female lead on the US Tour originated the role on Broadway, and has two Tony nominations.  One of the supporting characters, who got to sing Hand In My Pocket and You Oughta Know, sounded exactly like Alanis.  It was absolute fan porn, but if you are my age, and were in middle/high school when that album came out, it was an enjoyable guilty pleasure

I hope you're right.

I also think they're not going to do it, to be honest.

But it's one of those "back of the mind" worries that gets to me. I'd like to assume they're going to be rational. But you know what happens when you ass-u-me, right?
With situations like that, I've tried to be better about unplugging.

Like, it well could happen, and a lot of stuff could go to shit. But I can't do a lick to control it. And a lot more mundane stuff could also absolutely ruin my life.

I think I might be preaching nihilism. But I'm sure some moments of all our fandoms would make us want to believe in nothing.

Shouldn't it say "Massive Chicken BBQ in Connecticut"?

How to Spot an American Tourist Abroad – Herald Weekly

I found many of these to be true, and try and avoid them in France...

Yeah those are all pretty much true.

But I can write a similar piece regarding tourists from other countries here in the US.  People from different cultures act differently, shocking!  Film at 11!

Talking bout Americans wearing shorts abroad, reminds me-- I remember being in Italy, in a beach town on the Mediterranean.  It was 95 degrees on a mid June day.  We're walking around doing the tourist thing, and of course I'm wearing shorts, because it's 95 degrees.  And of course the locals are all wearing long pants, because... well, they're complete morons I guess.  But what really took the cake, was the older Italian gentleman wearing leather pants, out on the beach.

Leather.

Pants.

95 degrees, on the beach, wearing leather pants.

So yeah... I'm cool with Italians mocking me for wearing shorts.

So, we're off on this crazy trip to the mideast next Friday, and I'm still musing about which lenses to take with my Nikon.  I'm sorta settled on taking only my standard lens, an 18-55, which is nice and small and light.  I have an 18-400, which of course provides a lot of reach but is heavy.  My wife upgraded to an iPhone 14 and it takes incredible snapshots anyway.

Hopefully all goes to plan and we don't get taken by pirates or terrorists or Illinois Nazis.  I'm always a bit nervous about flights getting us there on time of course, but we have a two day window at least.  I'm pretty excited to see Petra, my wife claims Egypt is a something, and she's excited to see Jerusalem.  I imagine we'll be triple checking our stuff and worrying about what to pack.  It gets cool at night at these places, even Dubai.
