Again, it's a distribution.

I understand what you mean, but you said the average of the distributions, and we don't have the data on the distributions, mean, or st. dev's, so I was just spitballing based on anecdotal evidence.  i.e., I've known a lot of brilliant people who loved cfb and a lot who wouldn't give it a second thought.  Merely opining using the presupposition that people on the high end--whatever the distribution looks like--may indicate that people being on the low or high end is not a good explainer.

Or it might be.  I'm still not sure if the cfb comparison is a good one or not.

So feel free to ignore, like FF and bayarea, who aren't reading this.

This is one of the things I like about where I work, too. In the normal population, I'm pretty smart. In my office, I'm about average, or maybe below it, and several of the people I work with blow my mind. It's pretty cool.

My department is about 13 people, but I only work closely and daily with one other girl.  She's quite brilliant.  Probably partly because she's 20 years younger than me and her neuroplasticity clobbers mine at my age, her cognitive horsepower is just superior to me.  But I suspect if my 27 year old self were here instead of....me....she'd still outclass me.

It's a small sample size, but in my office, I'm the dummy.

I'm am the tech dummy in my department , where the young'ens run circles around me.

I expressed this to my uppers, who I have a great relationship with, saying I was becoming increasingly replaceable.  They chuckled and assured me that I was nearly irreplaceable for my wisdom, relationship building ability, and overall communication skills -- citing the autistic levels of soft skills the young folks possess.

Maybe there is a future for us old heads.

I mean, you don't have to worry about what happens at your old job. Alas, you're just in position that you do.

The company is not performing at the level it was when I was a manager.

If it fails, and it could, my remaining buyout is in jeopardy.

We don't need it, but I WANT it.

Now, I just observe from a very safe distance, and hope that they get it back to what it was.

Every now again I get a call for advice. I wish it happened more. Or do I...
