He's right about the UTEP fight song, I looked it up and listened to it.  I never knew that, but it's definitely the Marty Robbins hit "El Paso."

Also, I'm surprised I've never heard that La. Tech story, but it's cool.

I don't think I've ever been bitten by any insect in SoCal.

They have that going for them.

  • Only female mosquitoes bite?  I never knew that.
  • This is probably a dumb thought, but....how does releasing 32M males who can't reproduce cut down on the population?  The other males who can reproduce who were already there would still reproduce as normal, presumably, so how does that reduce the population?

Per Google, the lady mosquitoes can only mate once. So they mate with the sterile gets and won’t reproduce at all.

Science!

For sure.  It's too damn cold for insects.  Humans, too! ;)

I've not noticed flying insects in Hawaii, but where we stay is xeric.

Anecdotally, are any of you seeing more real estate activity / home listings where you live?

I realize "walking my dog in my neighborhood" is not exactly extensible to the rest of the nation (or even the rest of Mission Viejo), but I was struck by quite a few more signs in the tract than I'm used to.

I looked it up on Zillow and it seems that some of these are flips, and it's not like the prices are attractive as a potential buyer. But increasing inventory is a welcome sight for me if it's a real trend.

We're in a buyer's market here, so only desperate sellers are choosing to go on the market right now.

Sioux City was a potentially dangerous area back in the day

my grandfather told some stories, one story was him being jailed for bootleg whiskey
Where's the danger?Hand the the Prosecutor and Judge some stump Whiskey or proceeds from such and they'd be good - back in the day

Is that really a shocker?

It made me realize how many frauds there are out there in the world, selling misinformation.  Such as Candace Owens and some of their ilk.  Alex Jones is the other one that was super popular.
The way that polluted rube wails on like a cat caught in a car's fan belt. As if he simultaneously languishes with kidney stones, hemorroids, gout and the great siberian itch
