We had "fire training" annually for a while, it was pretty fun. They had a contained area where they'd pour Diesel and throw in a match, nothing. Then some gasoline, match, whoosh. Fun stuff. Then we each had to "pull, squeeze, sweep", or something like that, with an extinguisher.
We'd had a rather major fire when I was in school in an adjacent lab to ours. I went over and ran back to get our fire extinguishers one at a time, they run out rather quickly. This was a large ether fire. I recall going through 4-5 of them, and two other guys did as well, and I was going down the hall to get the fire hose, which probably was a bad idea when it burned itself out.
Another time we had an explosion in our lab and I had to take the kid to the ER, that was ... interesting, had a conversation with campus cops, the nurses, and finally the doctor came out to ask me questions.
