He's right about the UTEP fight song, I looked it up and listened to it.  I never knew that, but it's definitely the Marty Robbins hit "El Paso."

Also, I'm surprised I've never heard that La. Tech story, but it's cool.

I don't think I've ever been bitten by any insect in SoCal.

They have that going for them.

  • Only female mosquitoes bite?  I never knew that.
  • This is probably a dumb thought, but....how does releasing 32M males who can't reproduce cut down on the population?  The other males who can reproduce who were already there would still reproduce as normal, presumably, so how does that reduce the population?

Per Google, the lady mosquitoes can only mate once. So they mate with the sterile gets and won’t reproduce at all.

I've not noticed flying insects in Hawaii, but where we stay is xeric.
