My sophmore year in HS baseball:
We were tied with three teams for 4th place, the last spot to make the region playoffs.
We had to win that playoff to make the regionals, and we did.
Then we were in double elimination 8AAA regionals, and won the first two games, and then faced our main rival in a double header IF they won the first game which they did. So, we're down to the final game. Our HS had let out school early, it was a weekday, and the stands were more full than I'd ever seen them. We got out ahead 7-0 when our pitcher ran out of gas, so we were tied going into the 8th inning (extra) and I was called on to pitch top of the 8th. I had pitched to finish game one after we got behind and out starter was being held back for the second game. I K'd the first batter and was feeling spicy, the second grounded out, and I got the 3rd guy 0-2 and somehow grooved one that he hit about 295 feet into left field, but the fence was 300, and our starting pitcher calmly backed and caught it.
Then we won in the bottom half. We lost 2-0 in the state championship round to a team that had the No. 1 draft pick at catcher, he was "good".
But I ramble on ...
