The wife bought me a French press a while back so I feel compelled to use it.  I can't tell any difference versus the old coffee maker.  I'd use a percolator if we had one.  The wife has a Nespresso machine.  We were looking at new ones in the mall the other day.  She likes the sleek lines of the new ones.  I guess they are ornaments now, like a painting on the wall or a sculpture or something, a piece of art.

It's an easy Christmas buy I guess.

It's coffee for crying out loud.  I'm not a conniseur which is a word I can't spell.
I like the techniques that avoid filters, especially paper filters. The best tasting coffee constituents are the oils. And though some will inevitably escape a filter, their loss is primarily a function of surface area contact and a paper filter provides too much of that. When French Pressing pure beans (never adding cream or frothed milk), I get a cm or two of "head" (for the first two mug fills) like you see with a draft beer. That's a lot of tasty surfactant. And a drip brew never comes close (the foamy oils are never even visible).

My i s c & a aggie wife loves to buy small appliances.  It's a strange obsession for her.  I'm lucky, ultimately they're cheaper than shoes and clothes and women's accessories and she doesn't spend much at all on those things.

But appliances, wow.

Consequently we have 4 coffee makers-- our "main" Cusinart drip that's stylish, one new Kuerig that she bought for the new RV but now resides in the house, a Nespresso that I love for making espresso, and a cheap Mr. Coffee espresso/cappucino maker that's more trouble to use and I don't make frothed milk drinks anyway so the Nespresso is perfect for me.  All four of those sit on our countertop in our "coffee bar" area.  None of that even counts the old Mr. Coffee drip that came with the Airstream, so that's really 5 coffee makers. OH, and a French press that I lake to take when I go tent/back country camping.

We also have 4 blenders. We have one of those bullet things that she insisted on buying, I think because it was cute. Not sure she's ever used it.  We have my old college/bachelor blender that works fine for pretty much anything.  We have a new(er) Osterizer with the chrome beehive base that was a wedding present, and then we have the new Vitamix she bought a couple of years ago and I nearly choked on my food when she told me how much it cost.  It does make perfectly smooth enchilada gravy with no need for straining, though, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

We also have 3 toasters.  I have no idea why.

Ever do a meat loaf in cast iron on the grill (indirect heat)?
Never have. And unfortunately my grill (a Cobb) won't accommodate the cast iron I have. I like the idea though. Of the remaining options (in oven or on cast iron over stove), which do you suggest? Something else?

No cooking today, 11yo girl has a soccer double-header at 12 and 1, and the 9yo boy has a football game at 3.  I'll have to record the Texas-Baylor game and watch it later.  Maybe I'll cook something tonight, but it's more likely we'll go out for wings.

Yup.  That was at least 50% of the reason why we killed the tailgate.

Sounds like she just needs to add an instant pot and an air fryer. And yeah, while expensive, the Vitamix is worth it. Juicing a basket full of tomatoes without peeling the skins is life changing.

The wife wants an inductive cooktop (again).  We're in the initial stages of a kitchen redo.  The Miele induction stoves are pricey.

It's a good day to make some chili, but I'm all out of beans and don't know if I'll get to the store.
My pantry is spilling over with them - send over a drone

We already have two different pressure cookers.  I have strictly forbidden the instant pot.  But, eventually she's bound to be influenced my pinterest or facebook and I have no doubt we'll have an instant pot at that point.  Especially if there's a flashy one in stainless steel accents.  She loves that stuff.
I've come around on the Vitamix.  Like I said, it's perfect for enchilada gravy, and that's pretty much enough to get my vote.  It also makes great frozen margaritas.

Well the great news is, there are no beans in chili, so you're all good!
