When I was interviewing, we'd first interview on campus and then potentially "on site", a "plant trip". I was excited to get plant trips, when they happened, but I discovered they took a lot of time I did not have. When I collected three offers of employment, I quit interviewing just as the Big Oil companies came on campus. Several other students informed me that when they got to their hotel, there was $200 in cash in an envelop waiting for them for "expenses".

I was earning about $5 K a year, so $200 was a lot of money, I started to regret not going.

The next year was an economic recession and most of the folks than went with oil were laid off.

Typically, when a university decides to part ways with a head football coach, it’s going to come with an expensive price tag. That’s not how it’s going to go down for Utah State and fired head coach Gary Andersen, though.

According to a report from Doug Robinson of the Deseret News, Andersen will not accept a $2.7 million paycheck that is owed to him from Utah State after being fired during the 2020 season. At the time of his termination, the former Aggies leader had three years remaining on his contract in which he was expected to earn about $900,000 per year.

Per Robinson, Andersen signed a separation agreement and Utah State will not be required to pay the nearly $3 million in buyout money to the head coach.

“He doesn’t think he’ll coach again, but he’ll probably do some camps and work with youth,” Robinson wrote. “He said several times that he has nothing but good wishes for Utah State and its football program and meant it. And that was that.”

That's weird, though it's been pointed out, he's left a lot of folks out to dry.
