1. Iowa: By hook or by crook, Kinnick steals your heart.
2. Penn State: If Clifford is healthy, they are #1. If he isn't healthy, they are, uh, definitely not that. Haven't heard what is up with him, so here they be.
3. Ohio State: I said I'd move them up if they played good defense against Maryland, and they did. They aren't world beaters defensively, but they've moved from Bad to Kind of Good, Actually. Also the offense has a chance to be the best in school history, so that also helps the cause.
4. Michigan: Won a tough game on the road, and will be a tough out for everybody. Some fun games coming up.
5. Michigan State: Handled Rutgers with their own big plays. Offense really playing well - 588 yards against Rutgers is no joke.
6. Nebraska: Here is a team that probably should have beaten the two teams in front of them, but feels snake bit. They need a seance or something.
7. Wisconsin: Defense still good, offense still questionable. Ran the ball all over Illinois, managed only 100 yards passing.
8. Minnesota: I guess, gets pretty rough here.
9. Purdue: Struggles to score, but plays some defense. Not the Purdue we expected.
10. Maryland: Two games of getting their socks shot off, let's see if they can get healthy over the bye.
11. Rutgers: Punchy against Michigan, might have punched themselves out.
12. Indiana: Have struggled, and now they get MSU and OSU.
13. Illinois: Road kill against Wisconsin.
14. Northwestern: Splat

1. OSU - I know I hinted at maybe moving the winner of PSU-IOWA  up to #1,  but OSU just seems to have taken its play to a whole other level in the last couple of weeks.

2.  Iowa - down 17-3 to PSU,  Iowa passed several tests, including the key question,  how would Iowa respond if it was ever down 2 TDs?  IOWA used  defense, offense,  special teams, injuries, and home field advantage to pull off a special comeback.  Would Iowa beat PSU on neutral field with a healthy Clifford?  That's a tough question,   I know Clifford got hurt on a sack attempt,  but Clifford kept several drives alive by running for first downs or TDs himself.  He might get hurt again if PSU tried that strategy again in a rematch.  Iowa needs to avoid coming out flat against Purdue this week.

3.  PSU  - see above.  I hope for PSU's sake that Clifford can come back ASAP.  I believe that the PSU-Iowa game showed that teams have forgotten how to play in front of loud crowds on the road.  Another strange after effect from the pandemic

4.  MSU - this is a close call between Mich and MSU.  Boith have close victories over Neb, MSU at home, Mich on road,  but MSU beat Rut much more soundly.  They will settle this on the field in 2 weeks.

5.  Mich - see above

6.  Neb  - good enough to lose by 3 to both MSU and Mich.

7.  Wisc - solid win over ILL

8.  Minn. - Never know what to do with Minnesota.  I will keep putting them in middle

9.  Ind  -  we know Indy is not a top 25 team but are they good enough to beat Rut and MD?

10.  Rut -- not looking good against Big Ten's big boys

11.  MD - not looking good against the Big Ten's big boys.

12.  Pur -  Purdue has a golden opportunity this week to catch Iowa flat after Iowa's highly emotional win over PSU.

13.  ILL  -  was not competitive against Wiscy after close losses to MD and Pur.

14.  NW -  maybe NW can start getting its stuff together after a much needed bye week.

IMHO,I don't think iowa passed any tests they were on their way to getting throttled early @ home before a very good Sean Clifford went out. That's a game changer literally and i had the Hawks winning. They may be crowned king of a very weak west but i'd be shocked if the BTC doesn't come out of the east.Hawks may improve and if injury free could project another narrative but right now I'm not seeing it

Agree thats its hard to discount just how bad PSU's backup QB played in front of a hostile crowd.  Without Clifford, PSU had no chance to score in the 4Q.

But Iowa's defense usually does a good job at adjusting against whatever teams throw at them and shut it down in the 2nd half.    Its too simple to say Iowa's defense would not have adjusted if Clifford didn't get hurt.

Iowa has won 12 games in a row, including beating its last 6 ranked opponents.  Only 2 wins have been by less than 1 score.  At some point, you need to give Iowa some credit.

With all that said,  PSU's backup QB did make it a LOT easier for Iowa to come back.  No argument there.

I do as I said i had them winning but after review on the flip side PSU counters with something, there was just too big a swing in mojo after SC's injury. It was 17-3 and Lions appeared to be moving again. If Clifford gets back soon it's not out of the realm that there could be a rematch. Good luck to both teams moving forward

Clifford got hit on 3rd down, PSU kicked a field goal on the next play. Iowa scored a TD on the next drive. It was a one score game, 17-10, when the PSU backup took his first snap.

You realize how losing your top player can trickle down to the play of others?Perhaps Clifford throws a td strike - we don't know.Pulling closer with Clifford still in? - I'd take that bet - good luck but ferentz already got some of that

My point is, they weren't on their way to getting throttled, as you suggest. I'm sure you watch a lot of football, but I don't think you've watched much of Iowa. They don't give up many second half points and they very, very rarely get blown out.

With Clifford, I think PSU gets a second half TD and wins the game, but I don't think they would have broken 30 points.

1) Ohio State (2)
2) Penn State (1) - I'm going to assume Clifford comes back for their next game in two weeks. If he's out long term, they move down.
3) Iowa (4) - I told myself if Iowa won, I'd finally believe, but they found a way to win and still leave me feeling skeptical.
4) Michigan (3)
5) Michigan State (5)
--- The I don't know line ---
6) Wisconsin (6)
7) Nebraska (9)
8) Maryland (7)
9) Rutgers (8)
10) Minnesota (10)
11) Indiana (11)
12) Purdue (12)
13) Illinois (13)
14) Northwestern (14)

Fair enough.  I wish PSU and Iowa good luck as well and hope PSU gets Clifford back as soon as possible.

Looking at the Big Ten East right now, only Ohio State sticks out to me.  I believe they are the only team capable of blowing out Iowa and scoring over 30 points on Iowa's defense.  Mich and MSU are good teams but can barely beat Nebraska.  I don't believe they are much better than PSU or Iowa.

Kind of agree here. Ohio State is the only team in the whole league that scares me. They have so many skill weapons- it's insane. CJ Stroud looks better and better the more he plays and gains experience and the healthier he gets. Their WR crew is ridiculous. Wilson, Olave, and Smith-Njigba would all be the #1 WR on virtually every other team in the conference. TreVeyon Henderson is a stud of a RB, looking like he is by far the best RB they've had since Zeke. That offense has so much firepower it's insane. Those 3 WR's and that RB all look ELITE to me. They can hang points in a hurry on anyone when they are clicking.
