Kind of agree here. Ohio State is the only team in the whole league that scares me.
Perhaps, the only squad they played with a punchers chance dropped  tOSU - so we'll see.Easy to find your groove when there's no one to disrupt it.The meat of the schedule is ahead no doubt, but the last 2 week ends of CFB has been all that 😎

The fun part is, is how much some teams grow and improve or at least change as the season moves along.

Something we tend to forget after we see one or two games and we think about how good a team “is “.

For example, I think Nebraska is a much better team than they were in week one or two. I think Michigan is growing very nicely and finding ways to win, and figuring out how to improve their passing game slowly but surely.

I think Ohio State has changed dramatically with so many young players now having multiple games under their belt. They are really getting better every week on defense and more Crisp on offense.

You could do a similar analysis on just about every team.

On any given day I really think that Iowa, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio state, and Michigan State are capable of winning against any of the others.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

I would agree. But I would put Ohio State in Tier 1 by themselves. No one else has the firepower of the Buckeyes or the QB who can sling it like the one they have.

Iowa offense is not very good. At all. Michigan just doesn't have a passing game. At all. Michigan State offense is too reliant on the big play and I have ?'s on their OL. Penn State offense is kinda meh and their run game looks pretty weak sauce to me.

Then Iowa, Penn State, Michigan, & Michigan State in that Tier 2 fighting for #2 position behind Ohio State.

That's just my two cents.

Stroud has been getting consistently better reminds me a Fields a little bit.Pretty sure he still has a sore shoulder.Nice if his and the teams trajectory continues

Ohio State ''had guys look like they fell out of airplanes, they were so wide open,'' Terps coach Mike Locksley said.

My point is, they weren't on their way to getting throttled, as you suggest. I'm sure you watch a lot of football, but I don't think you've watched much of Iowa. They don't give up many second half points and they very, very rarely get blown out.

With Clifford, I think PSU gets a second half TD and wins the game, but I don't think they would have broken 30 points.
Lets not forget how valuable (odd to say) a good punter is. After Clifford went down it was something like 8 4 out of 9 5 (edit:i may have been a little over enthused) drives started inside the 10 (several inside the 5) and the other was a fair catch around the 11. Tough starts for any QB let alone a cold backup.

I have shaken up my rankings of the Top-4.
Iowa is #1. Iowa has a 12-game win streak, second longest in FBS football. Oklahoma has a 14-game win streak. There was a well-schemed play that put Iowa up with 6:23 in the 4th Qtr., and which was practiced. Iowa then relied on its vaunted defense to put away Penn State.
Ohio State is #2 leap-frogging Penn State. The main factor for Ohio State leapfrogging Penn State is that QB Clifford is lost for an unspecified time, and Penn State's best defensive tackle was lost to injury for an unspecified time. Otherwise I would have Penn State #2.
I did not install Ohio State at #1 because Ohio State lost to the only ranked team they played, #9 Oregon (Iowa did not lose to any of the three ranked teams it played - only one of those is currently ranked). If Penn State's Clifford recovers, Penn State could run tempo offense on Ohio State, same as Oregon State, and that could be a very competitive game.
I moved Michigan down to #4 as they struggled with an improving Nebraska team, and needed one of Nebraska's myriad of expected mistakes at the end to pull it out.
Michigan State had a nice win over Rutgers.
I moved Nebraska up despite its loss, but Nebraska is only as good as the # of turnovers it gives up and the # of missed field goals, and other mistakes. Nebraska has such an athletically talented and scary good QB who nevertheless has butterfingers and has done nothing to clean his fingers, not to mention Nebraska on defense is playing better.
Who knows where the rest of 7-12 should be ranked, I don't.
#s 13 and 14 are clearly either 13 or 14.

  • Iowa - Good win over Penn State. Not sure they do this if Clifford stays healthy, but in the end, results matter.

  • Ohio State - It appears as though the Buckeyes are finally hitting their stride. At least it's been a few games since I saw linebackers and corners running into each other.
  • Penn State - Tough game against a good opponent. Looked pretty good while Clifford was in, not so much after he got hurt. Still a lot of opportunities to prove themselves.
  • Michigan - I didn't get to watch the game but from what I saw, Nebraska came to play and gave the Wolverines all they wanted.
  • Michigan State - As was said earlier, relying too much on big plays. Still a much improved team from last year.
  • Nebraska - This seems weird to have them this high, but right now they are playing as well or better than the teams below them. I base my rankings on how teams look NOW, not what their record is or how they have necessarily done in the past. I believe that they would/could beat any of the teams below them on a neutral field.
  • Wisconsin - Beat the Illini but didn't look all that great doing it.
  • Minnesota - Not really sure where to rank them, but I believe they are better than the teams below them.
  • Maryland - Can be good offensively, but do not seem to be able to play with the better teams in the league.
  • Indiana - Was last year a fluke? Kind of looking that way right now.
  • Purdue - They have been competitive in all of their games. Need to find a way to finish.
  • Rutgers - Rough 3 game stretch, now the schedule gets easier and we will see how they stack up.
  • Northwestern - Fighting for the title of worst team in the B1G.
  • Illinois - Loss to UTSA gives them the crown.

After reading through everyone else's rankings, I guess my ranking of Nebraska is pretty much in line with what others are thinking.

1) Ohio State - Offense is clicking, defense improving.
2) Iowa - Did enough to get the win.
3) Penn State - Assuming Clifford can come back and play.
4) Michigan State - Have to respect their offensive weapons.
5) Michigan - Avoided the upset, but didn't look as dominant as earlier in the year.
6) Nebraska - Amazing that they can't seem to win any of these close games.
7) Wisconsin - Flashed what they could be.  Maybe an eventual challenger to Iowa?
8) Minnesota - bye
9) Purdue - bye
10) Indiana - bye
11) Rutgers - dominated 2 weeks in a row by good teams.  Now they get some easier games to get back on track.
12) Maryland - same old MD.  May not win another game
13) Illinois - sorry Bert
14) Northwestern - bye

Last week in parenthesis

  • IOWA (2) - PSU is probably #1 if Clifford is healthy, but results matter
  • PENN STATE (1) - without Clifford though the offense is an absolute mess
  • OHIO STATE (3) - rounding into form
  • MICHIGAN (4) - showed me a lot pulling out a 4th quarter W in a very hostile environment
  • MICHIGAN STATE (5) - had 4 60+ yard TDs on Saturday, not sure they had that many in Dantonio's last 4 seasons
  • NEBRASKA (8) - heartbreak after heartbreak
  • WISCONSIN (9) - the formula still works against the conference's dregs
  • MARYLAND (6) - just when you think they are a factor, back to back blowout losses sort of ends that
  • RUTGERS (7) - see above
  • INDIANA (10) - getting MSU at home, with an extra week to prepare, is probably their last chance to salvage something
  • MINNESOTA (11) - bye week
  • PURDUE (12) - bye week
  • ILLINOIS (13) - blah
  • NORTHWESTERN (14) - bye week
