1) Ohio State - No reason to move them down
2) Wisconsin - Looking like the team to beat this year
-------

3) Penn State - Great defense. Still not sold on them at this spot.
4) Iowa
5) Michigan State - Finally showed some offense.
5) Michigan - Were physically abused in that game. Would move them down but no other team looks any better.
--------

7) Maryland
8) Minnesota
9) Nebraska - Need to work on ball security.
10) Indiana
11) Northwestern
-------

12) Purdue
13) Illinois - Took advantage of Husker miscue's but failed to close it out.
14) Rutgers - Apparently the linemen don't like long plays as evidenced by the center punching the QB after a long TD.

I read this to mean:
  • #5 Michigan State
  • #6 Michigan
Let me know if that is incorrect.

  • Ohio State - 1,1,1,1 - Did pretty much what they were expected to do.
  • Wisconsin - 2,2,4,3 - My hardest decision in making these rankings was between tOSU and UW for #1.  The Badgers have been more impressive so far but I'm just not ready to say they are the better team yet.  Time will tell.
  • Penn State - 3,3,3,4 - Off.
  • Iowa - 5,6,5,6 - Off.
  • Michigan - 4,4,2,2 - That was ugly.
  • Michigan State - 7,7,7,9 - The offense appears to be better than last year but that isn't saying much.
  • Maryland - 8,5,8,11 - Off.
  • Nebraska - 6,9,6,8 - I expected better.
  • Northwestern - 9,10,9,7 - Now they'll improve and upset someone.
  • Minnesota - 10,8,13,10 - Off.
  • Indiana - 11,13,12,12 - Nice bounce-back.
  • Purdue - 12,11,10,5 - Off.
  • Illinois - 13,12,11,13 - Oh so close.
  • Rutgers - 14,14,14,14 - Still Rutgers.

Results posted, votes through @Temp430 , 13 voters.

We still seem pretty unsure of the middle but most of us now agree at least on the top five and the bottom three.

The schedule continues to look more and more favorable for the Buckeyes and Badgers.

Here, per our rankings, are the top-4 contenders in the East:

Note that Ohio State's toughest road game is at #6 Michigan and their second toughest is at #8 Nebraska.  By contrast Penn State has to play their three toughest opponents on the road (#1 tOSU, #4 IA, #5 MSU).  The Spartans have to visit Columbus, Madison, and Ann Arbor.  The Wolverines host the Buckeyes but they already lost in Madison and they still have to visit State College and College Park.

Here, per our rankings, are the top-4 contenders in the West:

Nebraska has the theoretically easiest schedule but their four point win at Illinois hardly inspires confidence.  The Badgers have to visit Columbus but they host their next two best opponents (#4 IA, #5 MSU).  The Hawkeyes have to visit Madision, Ann Arbor, and Lincoln.  Minnesota's schedule is similar to Nebraska's, but their nailbiters against bad teams do not inspire confidence that they can take out any of the better teams in the league.

  • OHIO STATE (1) - what else is left to say
  • WISCONSIN (2) - looking increasingly likely for a matchup of unbeatens on October 26
  • PENN STATE (3) - bye week
  • IOWA (5) - bye week
  • MICHIGAN STATE (6) - offense is improved, but not enough to overcome the still numerous gaffs
  • MICHIGAN (4) - 2 weeks of prep time was not enough, will be interesting to see how they come out against Rutgers
  • MARYLAND (7) - bye week
  • MINNESOTA (9) - bye week
  • INDIANA (11) - I don't think there's a team in the conference I have less of a read on
  • NEBRASKA (10) - escaped in Champaign, in a game I thought was going to be very close
  • PURDUE (12) - bye week
  • NORTHWESTERN (8) - offense looks like a total disaster, or is it just another Northwestern September?
  • ILLINOIS (13) - Nebraska tried their darndest to hand this one to the Illini
  • RUTGERS (14) - Rutgers football = where staying within 2 scores of a team at home, coming off a loss to Kansas seems like improvement

1. Ohio State - Nothing to say.  Dominating.

2. Wisconsin - No doubt at this point.  I can't believe I had them so low in the preseason.

3.  Iowa

4.  Michigan State

5.  Michigan - They don't deserve to be raked over the coals by the media.  Wisconsin is a good team, Michigan is still trying to find their identity.  I expect them to finish strong.

6.  Maryland - I still think they will beat Penn State on Friday.

7.  Penn State - Got some problems, look to address them in the bye week.  Hopefully if they lose they don't get beat up in the media like Michigan has.

8.  Nebraska

9.  Minnesota

10.  Northwestern - tough schedule, I think they are a better team than this.

11.  Purdue

12.  Indiana

13.  Illinois

14.  Rutgers

I should proof read before I post. But you are correct, I meant for Mich St #5 and M #6.

5. Michigan State (+2) - Good Win
6. Michigan (2-) - That was an @ss kicking
7. Maryland (-2) - I almost moved them above MeatChicken, but that Temple loss, I almost moved them to the bottom half.

9. Northwestern -
10. Minnesota -
11. Indiana -

FWIW:

After I posted the results through @Temp430 , I did note the votes of @ELA , @Big Beef Tacosupreme , and @TyphonInc .  I am not going to redo the results post because there were no major changes but their votes are included in the totals going forward.
