Reached the time of year now where daytime highs are still into the 80s, but nice and cool at night. Had to put the doors back on the Jeep in case I drive it in the mornings to work.

Have CFB marching bands ever actually been ranked objectively by marching band types? Better yet, do they hold a National competition like cheerleaders, and crown a NC?

OSU, UW, UM, USC, ND and UT are all in the conversation. OSU is the best I've seen live, and I've seen a lot of bands.

UW just got a new director, after 50 years with the same guy. It will be interesting to see how they change things up. I do know they will keep the high steps and precision marching. They don't stand around, like some.

I don't think the SEC puts much emphasis on the band.

Speaking of which, I made tacos for lunch (soft, make your own).  I grilled the ground beef last night and used that.  I think I'll make chili with some of the rest of the beef tomorrow.  I like green onions on the chili, served over rice (no beans).  I like fish tacos a lot.

We found the Dekalb Farmer's Market yesterday, it's basically the same as Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati, huge and fascinating, a lot of live critters in it (fish types).  They appear to butcher their own meat there on site.  It was packed, really tight getting around, a lot of vegetable options.

It's not a farmer's market of course, just a huge store.

Some of the HBCU bands are pretty awesome, perhaps they should be considered?

I'm not being cordial, but I absolutely love when/how UW builds up to a crescendo with When the Caissons Go Rolling Along. While tOSU has an outstanding band - their song selection blows sometimes. The Buckeye Battle Cry and Across the Field are great but I'd rather get a visit from the Angel of Death than listen to "Hang on Sloopy" one more time.It is with out a doubt the sappiest, spineless, suckiest ass song ever foisted onto a fan base.Check that - after Rocky Top but the point stands

Jake Fromm left his post game interview last night singing "Good ol' Rocky Top ..." as he went down the hall.

He apparently isn't tired of hearing it.

Jake is not very good, no way he should ever think of leaving early for the League.

I'd imagine that the Military Acadamies have some pretty sound marching bands. And I know that a handful of the HBCUs are reknowned for theirs.

He's not? That's interesting.

The moving West Virginia outline seems as though it would be rather difficult to execute.

Then again, what do I know.

I don’t know the first thing about what makes a good band but I know WVU has always touted the fact that they won the Sudler Trophy in 1997.  The link above details what that is and past recipients.
