We had our last baseball game today. Our coach started a pitcher we know can't throw strikes, and he couldn't, again. He told me to "be ready", so after one out in the first, bases loaded, 4 runs in, the coach called me into the game (I was playing first). OK fine, no biggee. I did "OK", our defense is ... inept. The first guy hit routine grounder to our SS and it went through his legs. Could have ended the inning. I toil on. Pitched the second and had one out in the third, bearing in mind outs were hard to come by, I managed a couple Ks. I was gassed. It was a thousand degrees out there, so I told our coach, who plays (sorta) third base, I was done, probably 150 pitches. Maybe 200. I won't count the errors.
So, The next P comes and walks about 4 in a row and finally there is a ball hit to our SS who fields it this time and flips to me, I'm at 2B, I make the throw in time to first, DP!!! Yay. I'm first up to bat the next inning, barely able to move, and somehow hit an 0-2 pitch on a line to right center, yay me. I don't hit so well now. Anyway, season over, we were 0-fer, usually by run rule. I think the score was 19-0.
It's still good for me, keeps me throwing, I'm the oldest on our team by a fair bit. I have not been this tired in a while. We had lunch as usual at a place near the field called The Union, it's pretty amazing really. Great pizza.
