I mean, I assume most people move there because they want to live there. And even you change the place with you midwestern presence.

Unless you're making it LESS Alabama, and then, definitely try to change it!

If you want to make it more like mobile, that could be nice.

We observed, studied state and local history, and just listened to people who have been here a long time or were born here. We also watched the various local news sources a lot.

I enjoyed that elective. It met some sort of diversity requirements back then. I don't know what they call it now.

However, this university core fluff could be taken out and then engineering would be a 3 year degree. That would be nice.



My degree required 147 credits. They have it down to 125 now.

147 hours is a lot for a 4 year degree.  Did they expect students to take 18+ hrs per semester, or make some hrs up in summer semesters?

In general, I lean toward the "classical education" conception of the university, in that I like the "core fluff" and reason that the original intention of universities was to make people more well-rounded individuals....they weren't trade schools geared toward getting you a job.  

OTOH, I'd rather jettison the core fluff than have it taught badly and stupidly.  

University funding these days ties a lot to effectively turning them into trade schools, so that classical approach has been getting sliced and cut away at for a long while now anyway.  

I can take free classes here for being an employee.  I've thought about dropping in on some classes to see how we do in certain areas.  My stepson had a history professor his freshman year I was inclined to have a word with.  I notice we don't employ him anymore, he probably moved on, I seriously doubt he was fired.  I've wondered if we have more where he came from.
