Strange model.

Opposite of network news which took half to century to realize that paying the 630pm est anchors a fortune to read a teleprompter isnt a model worth keeping .

ESPN layoffs include Jay Bilas, so they can afford Pat McAfee, Stephen A. Smith, and a bunch of interns
Blame the audience.

I agree, but, as you said, money.

I actually love the idea of ripping random ass NCAA player cards.  My wheels are spinning, but I do not have the time.

I would play the mode if they included every player, with their rating, since NCAA started.  I'd be ok with multiple Darren McFaddens if you got different year Darren McFaddens.  I got sophomore Darren McFadden, he's an 85; junior year Darren McFadden is a 93, etc...  And then build the rareness like a pyramid.  The problem is my kid would quit after getting not getting rewarded, and others would as well
I really like that idea.
I don't have the game, just seen some vids on youtube about it.  It could be so much better than it is, lol.

Your idea about individual player seasons is an idea I really like for college football card sets.
Yes, you'd include annual releases of notable players from the recent season, but also have a ton of previous player-season cards.  With that dynamic, you'd have thousands of cards to release over the years.
Plus, different years for a player would have different value/interest.  The 2004 Adrian Peterson card would be his 'best', but it would only be released once, say, in the 2027 card set.  So you could sprinkle in star players' 'best' season card spread out year by year, as you release sets.
Tebow would have 3 notable cards, with his FR year "rookie" where he contributed to a NC, then his SO Heisman year, and then the 08 'promise' and NC.
People could work to collect entire careers of individual players, seeking out their card in multiple annual sets.

Subsets could be awards - a unique Butkus winner card, Heismans, Thorpes, etc.
And to copy the video game, you could have mascot cards, stadiums, bowl games (I'm hoping to pull that Bluebonnet Bowl card!), etc.

Would this not sell?  The sports card industry is in a strange place now.  People literally throw regular cards in the trash, just wanting the 1 of 1 cards or autographs/relics.  No one cares about just collecting cards of their favorite players.  Again, it's all about money/value.

I guess I'm officially old, lol.

"The masses" love McAfee, because they're not intimidated by his intelligence.

The masses are responsible for every loudmouth, know-nothing blowhard on air.  No one else is to blame.  Businesses do what makes money, period.

I haven't watched anything on ESecPN since the College Football Playoffs.

Almost everything on that garbage network is unwatchable.

Multiple reports say the Jay Bilas layoff was a hoax that went viral, perpetrated by a fake Jon Rothstein account.

.....whoever that is.

https://www.elevenwarriors.com/college-football/2026/05/162525/November-7-might-break-college-football

Elevenwarriors is an Ohio State site but this isn't an "Ohio State" article.  Ramzy does good stuff and here he is looking forward to what could potentially be an epic CFB Saturday.

The most ranked vs ranked games on a single Saturday in the CFP era is six back on October 14, 2014:

  • #12 MissSt d #6 aTm 48-23
  • #11 OleMiss d #3 Bama 23-17
  • #25 TCU d #4 OU 37-33
  • #9 ND d #14 Stan 17-14
  • #5 Auburn d #15 LSU 41-7
  • #10 MSU d #19 UNL 27-22

There have also been a few weekends with five ranked vs ranked games but November 7, 2026 could potentially top them all.  I'm not exactly sure where Ramzy is getting his projected rankings but here is what he has:
  • #8 Miami at #4 Notre Dame - NBC at 730
  • #3 Oregon at #2 Ohio State - time/TV TBD
  • #13 Bama at #9 LSU - time/TV TBD
  • #5 Georgia at #17 Ole Miss - time/TV TBD
  • #20 BYU at #24 Utah - time/TV TBD
  • #14 Oklahoma at #22 Florida - time/TV TBD
  • #18 Penn State at #21 Washington - time/TV TBD
  • fringe-t25 VaTech at #25 SMU - ESPN Friday at 7pm
  • #7 Texas at fringe-T25 Mizzou - time/TV TBD

That list doesn't even include Arkansas/Auburn, aTm/USCe, UK/TN, WVU/TxTech, and MSU/M.

If this does all play out, my hope is that they are spread out across timeslots not all packed together.  So far we have one Friday night and one Saturday night.  If it is #3 at #2 (or anything close to that) the Ore/tOSU game will almost certainly be Fox' "Big Noon" game.

Here is what we have in the B1G that weekend:
Friday, November 6:
  • Nebraska at Illinois on Fox at 8pm
Saturday, November 7 (all are time/TV TBD):
  • MSU at M
  • UCLA at Minnesota
  • Iowa at Northwestern
  • Oregon at Ohio State
  • Maryland at Purdue
  • Penn State at Washington
  • Rutgers at Wisconsin
Indiana and and USC are off that weekend.  They face each other in Bloomington the following Saturday and previously (10/31) hosted MN and tOSU respectively.
