Totally mindless.  Which describes what I've thought about Nike's entire body of messaging for a long time.
Amazing how Nike has gotten the vast majority of Div I football programs to be its advertisers.
I didn't know about the Gary Gilmore connection.

I always through the message was "whatever it takes to get us all that money." And it seems to keep working. 

(They also manage to push boundaries of normal taste, and people shell out for something distinctive)

I can't help but roll my eyes a little at Whitlock. I've read him too long, kind of see through the schtick now.

He's sharing a rather easy to sell bit right now, that the vast tide of whatever side you don't like is going to overwash what you love. It's been a business for a while, and a good one. (It's also weird because he got a little extra batty before joining outkick, though I think the new outlet is kinda harnessing some of the batty, but also toning it back)

Yeah, he's a sellout, and he's also extremely scattered.  I can't even enjoy his article because it just seems like a laundry list of right wing talking points without much tying them together.

Yeah, his crazy went from oddly scattered to extremely focused.  The shame is, he's actually a pretty good writer, but he has simply become a caricature, because only being on tv pays the bills

I think he went through the same newsroom as Gregg Doyle, who is one of my favorite stories in sports media. Doyle was like the purest form of rage columnist at CBS, which at times has its value, but can also be annoying in its way. He went to therapy for (surprise) anger issues and got divorced. Took a job at the Indianapolis Star and instead of only writing the reactions of Colts, IU or Purdue games, he became a pure local columnist digging in on all sorts of stories he found cool. He did a high school girls soccer story a few years back that will just bring you right to tears.

That's the Jason Whitlock I remember from his early ESPN days.  One day I'd want to throw an anvil through the screen at him, and the next time I caught him he'd have me in tears.
