THIS WEEK IN HUSKER HISTORY
The week of Nov. 11-17, looking back in five-year intervals
1897: There are hard feelings all around after Nebraska beats Kansas in Lincoln. To this day, the schools disagree on the final score -- 10-5 or 6-5.
1902: After a 7-0 win over Knox in the mud, there's praise for the Cornhuskers, who haven't yielded a point all season, and the university gets ready to seek admission into the Western Conference.
1912: Two long-distance touchdowns in the fourth quarter -- a 70-yard run by Ernest Frank and a 75-yard interception return by Warren Howard -- rally Nebraska to a 14-3 win over Kansas in Lincoln.
1917: A 35-yard run by quarterback John Cook in the third quarter turns the tide in a 13-3 win at Kansas.
1922: Husker tackle Ray Weller blocks a punt for a safety and deflects a pass that gets returned for a touchdown as NU rolls to a 28-0 win at Kansas.
1932: NU damages Pitt's national title hopes by outplaying the Panthers in a 0-0 tie in Lincoln.
1937: Despite being badly outyarded, the Huskers carry a 7-0 lead into the fourth quarter at No. 1 Pitt, but the Panthers pull out the win, 13-7.
1942: Pitt scores on a deflected pass to defeat visiting Nebraska, 6-0. Adding to the frustration, two third-quarter Nebraska possessions reached the Pitt five-yard line but resulted in no points.
1952: Paul Giel does most of the damage as Minnesota downs the Huskers, 13-7, in Lincoln. The game featured the final touchdown of Bobby Reynolds' Nebraska career.
1962: Boosters pass the hat for a $200,000 life insurance policy for Bob Devaney in hopes of keeping other schools from luring him away. Meanwhile, the Huskers improve to 8-1 by shutting out Oklahoma State, 14-0.
1967: The Blackshirts notch a third consecutive shutout, a 9-0 win over Oklahoma State.
1972: The Huskers escape with a 23-23 tie at Iowa State when the Cyclones miss the extra point after scoring a touchdown in the final 30 seconds.
1977: I.M. Hipp rushes for 200 yards and Rick Berns picks up 107 in a 52-7 romp over Kansas.
1987: Nebraska leapfrogs Oklahoma into the No. 1 spot in the AP and UPI polls during the week off preceding the two teams' showdown in Lincoln. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys release John Dutton, ending the former Husker defensive lineman's 14-year NFL career.
1992: After two big wins over ranked teams, the Huskers fall 19-10 to a 3-6 Iowa State team in Ames.
Osborne's only loss to a sub 500 team - Tommie Frazier started as a Freshman
2012: Taylor Martinez becomes Nebraska's career passing leader as the Huskers roll past Minnesota, 38-14.
