Maybe... I wondered if a better AD could have helped Solich and created a contract to work on areas that were weak... like recruiting.  But he's had how many years in the MAC and has never won it.  Probably not what UNL wanted.

Bo is interesting.  I've never seen a coach go from parades in the street to creating a hate relationship with the fans.  Bo was SOOOOO much better than Riley, but Bo was the guy who focused on things that didn't matter instead of what did..  Like hunting down a fan before the Texas game to lecture him on what he said on his website.    He was a good team motivator, but I'm not sure he was an X's and O's genius.  He never figured out how to slow down Wisc.   Would I take his 9 wins per season today... absolutely.   At the time I did think UNL could do better.  Riley was a head scratcher when announced and the AD should have been fired for even suggesting it.

Since TO, UNL has had 2 guys who had elements of a great coach but also huge gaps..  BC could recruit and develop but had no idea how to relate to college kids and create a culture.  Bo connected with the players and could motivate them like no other... but his system was flawed and he had huge recruiting holes (like only 2 scholarship LB's on the team when UNL entered the BIG).

Hoping Frost is the guy, but Riley dug a huge hole.  I've never would have guess someone in football that long would be so bad at running a program at Nebraska.

Shoulda kept Solich

shoulda kept Solich and Bo until a better coach or equal was found

I know there are no sure things when hiring a coach, but............

Billy C. and Riley weren't even close

Tim Gay, Nebraska’s football-physics expert, has solved the conundrum of why a well-thrown football behaves the way it does.

https://research.unl.edu/blog/tipping-point-after-20-years-gay-solves-conundrum-of-football-physics/

The gyroscope of the problem
If a football were thrown in a vacuum, without any air to influence its flight, the phenomenon that so fascinated Gay wouldn’t exist. Instead, the ball’s nose would remain pointing upward even as gravity drew it back down to the field.

But introducing an atmosphere into the equation, or equations, means that physicists would expect to see notable changes in the flight of the ball as it sails through that air. The problem? What they expected is not what they saw.

Understanding why is a matter of forces and torques. Many of the forces are generated as the quarterback cocks his arm back, slings the ball forward and spins it off his fingers as he releases it. That motion propels the ball forward and up into the air, beginning the parabolic arc that the center of the ball will trace during a deep, well-thrown pass.

A tightly thrown spiral also rotates around the axis that runs from one tip of the football to the other, generating what’s known as angular momentum. When teaching the concept in class, Gay illustrates angular momentum by curling in the fingers of his right hand while sticking out his thumb. Whatever direction his thumb points is the direction of the angular momentum, with the curl of his fingers corresponding to the rotation of an object. The faster a football rotates, the greater its angular momentum — and in the case of a tight spiral, the direction of that angular momentum closely approximates the direction of the ball’s nose-to-nose axis.

As the arc of the ball’s trajectory dips below its initial launch angle, though, the torque generated by air rushing against it should, intuitively, cause the front end of the ball to pitch up so that it starts slowly tumbling backward, end over end.

“The reason it doesn’t happen is based on the concept of gyroscopic stabilization, and that’s where it gets difficult,” Gay said. “This illustrates how weird these kinds of problems are.”

encouraging press conference today..........

Scott Frost says he's under the impression that the Big Ten will allow artificial crowd noise this year. "I didn't vote on that." The Nebraska coach says it's "annoying" to hear fake noise and hopes there are regulations that prevent schools from directing it at visiting benches.

seems very unnecessary ........... COVID is too dangerous to be in the football stadium, so... let's pack a large crowd into the basketball arena

How badly strapped is the Nebraska athletic department for revenue right now? Do they owe money to Vinny and Rocko and they need cash fast???

I was wondering the same thing.  Have no idea of what pod seating will look like.  On the other hand, PBA is only a hop, skip, and a jump away from my house; I could walk there in 1/2 hour or so (I walk slow, lol).  Never been to a watch party - could be fun.

I met my brother in Lincoln a couple weeks ago

Buzzard Billys, Jack's, Buffalo wild wings, Alchemy Aqua Vitae, the Boiler Room, and stayed at the Graduate in the Haymarket

didn't feel real safe

I don't think I'd file into the Bank for a watch party with all those youngsters

I don't believe UNL is the majority owner of pinnacle bank arena.... could be wrong, but they have as many non-UNL events as UNL events.

btw... I'd also expect to hear a few announcements on player departures in the upcoming weeks.  My hopes for no more was short lived...  at this point, in my mind, it is clear... there are cultural problems in Lincoln.

does that include coaches and administrative staff?
