3* safety Michigan commit Joey Velasquez with a whale of a first game to kick off his senior season. Scored a rushing td on offense, had 10 tackles total, 4 tackles for loss, and forced 3 fumbles. In one half.

Looks like Don Brown might’ve known something when he threw the lowly 3* Velasquez the offer to play Viper.

Velasquez by the way was the top ranked HS baseball player in Ohio for the 2019 class and was committed to play baseball at Ohio State- that is until Don Brown offered him to play football and be his viper on defense. Velasquez will play both football and baseball at Michigan.

Dedrick Mills, a juco running back formerly with Georgia Tech, has committed to the Huskers for 2019.

Mills becomes the 16th verbal pledge for the class of 2019. He is also the third junior college player in the class. The Huskers seem to be reloading the running back room in preparation of losing both Devine Ozigbo and Mikale Wilbon to graduation after this season. Mills is the third running back commit to go along with 3-star (HV Rating: 87.9) Rahmir Johnson and 4-star (HV Rating: 90.5) Ronald Thompkins.

Michigan picks up two 4* commitments.

4* WR/RB Giles Jackson (5'9, 175) out of California picked Michigan over USC and Oregon. Jackson is one of the most athletic, electric players with the ball in the country.

4* DE/OT Mike Morris (6'5, 255) out of Florida flipped from Florida State to Michigan. Florida State wanted him at OT, he wants to play DE. Don Brown apparently loved the kid early on and targeted him. Similar player/body type to Chris Wormley.

Those two commits move their class up to #10 nationally and #1 in the B1G.

also: 5* safety Daxton Hill out of Oklahoma taking his official to Michigan this weekend against SMU. It's the only scheduled visit he has left, might not take others. He's already taken his OV to Alabama. A decision could come soon after his Michigan visit. Most of the national insiders and Bama/Mich insiders all seem to think he's down to Alabama and Michigan in a really tight battle.

I'm down. They did that with James Hudson.

Michigan really seems to be lacking elite talent at RB. They've went to bat at the RB position this class.

Zach Charbonnet (6'2, 215) out of California picked Michigan over USC and UCLA. 247 is bullish on Charbonnet- they rate him as the #40 player overall in the country and #4 RB- and the 247 West coast analysts Greg Biggins and Brandon Huffman both said he's the top RB out West and that they both have him in contention for FIVE STARZ.

Eric Gray (5'10, 190) out of Tennessee picked Michigan over Penn State and Alabama. 247 is bullish on him as well, they have him rated as the #87 player overall and the #1 All-Purpose RB. Gray lit it up at The Opening and saw his rankings rise. He's rushed for 5,366 yards and scored 90 touchdowns combined in his sophomore and jr seasons of high school football. He was Mr. Football in the state of Tennessee as a junior.

Giles Jackson (5'9, 175) out of California picked Michigan over USC and Oregon. 247 ranks him as the #213 player overall and the #3 All-Purpose back in the country. He really blew up at The Opening, having one of the top 5 SPARQ scores there after reeling off a 4.43 in the 40 (the 6th fastest time at the event) and a 3.85 in the shuttle (the top shuttle time there) and a 38.5" vertical. He was listed by 247 on their All-Opening Team at slot receiver over 5* WR Garrett Wilson- and was listed as one of the top performers overall that week. He started at receiver as a sophomore in HS and caught 42 passes for 847 yards and 13 TD's, then as a RB as a junior when he rushed for 1,586 yards and 22 TD's- so he's got experience playing both positions. Dynamic athlete that can play both spots and return kicks as well.

Now all they need is to develop an offensive line and hire an offensive co-ordinator who has a clue.

That’s a NICE haul!    I am so used to Michigan’s rich history in the RB spot.  So many studs through the years.  My favorite is still A-Train.

I haven't looked, but that's gotta best their best haul on paper at RB since the '13 class when they landed Derrick Green and De'Veon Smith. Green was rated as a 5* and in the top 25 overall, and Smith was a 4* and ranked in the 200's overall.

Green wound up being a bust at Michigan and TCU. Smith wound up being a solid player, but nothing more. Neither were NFL backs.

Anthony Thomas was very highly rated high school recruit, he'd have been a 5 STARZ on the sites had they been around back then. He was the #2 RB in the nation and the #1 player in Louisiana. Probably the last big-time recruit Michigan has signed out of Louisiana. Can't remember one since. He was a heckuva player. 2nd round NFL draft pick, ran for 1,200 as a rookie and won rookie of the year in the NFL. Never really recaptured his rookie year magic, dealt with injuries and off-field crap, but had a solid NFL career.

I think Wheatley was probably my favorite Michigan RB. Still to this day. They haven't had anyone with that kind of talent before or since. He was just freakish. He should've been an NFL Hall of Fame back. He certainly had that sort of raw talent. Legit 6 foot plus, chiseled 235 pounds of muscle and 4.35 speed with incredible power. I've honestly only seen a handful of backs his size with that sort of speed and burst.

3* DE Darius Robinson, who was a presumed MSU silent verbal, expected to officially announce today on his birthday, has pushed it back.  May be bad, may not be, but seems to say he certainly isn't already a silent.

Colorado seems to be making a late push, and he just officialed there a week ago IIRC.  Can't blame him, when we did that "what school would you commit to" thread several years back, I wound up getting Colorado.

Saw that yesterday, nice get.  I saw some Pitt fans locally freaking out, I know they had felt pretty good for a while about landing him.

OOPS!
yup.

Should've just lied to him to get him there. Then once he was there it would've been apparent to everyone that he's the best RB on the team.

He is a freak athlete. He could probably play OLB or box safety just as well as he plays RB.
