MSU needs some DBs.  Fortunately they took Gervin's commitment last year even though he was the 3rd CB, when they had planned on only taking 2, because with Hunt (who was recruited to MSU as a safety, not a RB), this class as of now has one corner and no safeties.

I can't blame a kid for wanting to stay closer to home, and I also wonder if Louisville and Georgia Tech are recruiting him as a RB.

Also, he had a 1300 SAT, so it isn't an academic thing
Flipped to Georgia Tech officially.  Smart kid, from Georgia, never going to question the motivation of a kid changing his mind and realizing moving to Michigan is a long way away as an 18 year old.

My guess is that's a one year thing.

I'm sure the new staff made a bunch of new offers and probably dropped contact with a bunch of offers made by the old staff

I think we all thought Brohm was a great hire, but I don't think anyone could have predicted how quickly he'd turn it around on the recruiting trail.
I can't even imagine how shitty for Purdue if Tennessee had succeeded in stealing him after one year.

If your program is recruiting well, your opposing fans claim you must be cheating.

It would be interesting to see the percentage of "5 star recruits" who really amount to something in CFB.  My GUESS is 3 out of 4?

Not counting injuries and academics, though perhaps that should count.

I've seen correlations between stars and who gets drafted down the line and it is a decent correlation.

Of course, we know any time a kid gets an offer from a Bama or Ohio State they suddenly gain a star, or so it seems.

I saw the note above about an 18 year old kid wanting to stay nearer home.  I can relate.  When I chatted with a couple professors about where to go to grad school they cited places like Wisconsin and UCal and my eyes sort of glazed over.

I had never been on an airplane (until 1980 in fact).  I was not sure Wisconsin really existed as a place and I imagined it was ice bound 9 months out of the year and merely cold the other 3.  I was pretty sure California was a figment of Hollywood movies and did not exist.  I had been to Texas and Oklahoma once as a kid, and as far north as Kentucky, again, once.  I was 20 at the time and my views were very parochial.  So, being closer to home is a comfort level in terms of culture and weather and family etc.

I know I wanted to provide more travel opportunities for my own kids and they've been all over the place (one place I wish he had never gone of course, that has been 13 years now as of 8/3).

And now my two kids live in Columbus, OH.  One may be moving to Texas soon, not sure.

UW picked up a commit from one of the top players on its board on Saturday in LB Spencer Lytle from California.

The three-star linebacker was down to Clemson and Wisconsin. He also held offers from Notre Dame, UCLA, Auburn, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oregon, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Arizona, California, Louisville, and Colorado to name a few.

2019 Cherry Creek (Colo.) offensive lineman Michael Lynn had his commitment typed up and ready to go for a few weeks before he dropped it on Twitter on Sunday evening, announcing his commitment to Nebraska.

Lynn became the 15th commitment in Nebraska's 2019 recruiting class, and the lineman is the third at his position group to commit to Nebraska. Lynn announced his commitment on Twitter. The lineman thanked coaches and friends for helping guide him on the path that led him to college football.

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive lineman plays for Cherry Creek in suburban Denver. Lynn is the No. 71 offensive tackle in the country by 247Sports Composite and carries a three-star ranking overall.

Lynn chose Nebraska over Arizona, Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Utah and Washington State among others, and visited Nebraska unofficially for the Huskers' spring game in April.

North Gwinnett defensive back Quinton Newsome became the latest to jump on board with Nebraska, committing to the Huskers on Monday afternoon.

Newsome is the first defensive back commitment of the 2019 class. The Huskers are likely going to take four commitments for the class, and Newsome’s versatility makes him a strong starting point as the coaches look to add on more.

At 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Newsome could play anywhere in the secondary for the Huskers, something Travis Fisher has talked about a lot going forward. The Nebraska assistant said he always tells guys as he recruits them that he wants them to have the ability to play cornerback or safety, which gives more depth overall for the defense.

Newsome, a consensus three-star, chose the Huskers over Auburn and Georgia, as well 17 other schools.

Michigan picks up a commitment from WR Quintel Kent of OH. He's a 3* barely, and the #1,648th ranked player overall in the 247composite. He had no other P5 offers and he plays at St. Ed's- a powerhouse school that has been scouted by every P5 staff in the country.

Seems like a huge reach at this stage. Could've waited. They should've been pushing for a commit from a different 3* WR out of Ohio- Trevon Raphael. He's only played 1 year of HS football but he's pushing 6'4, 180 and is an athletic freak.

Michigan's 2019 recruiting continues to be a little head scratching.

Michigan gets a commit from 3* in-state DE prospect Tyrece Woods from Belleville HS. Woods is listed at 6'2, 255 lbs and he said he's being recruited as a defensive tackle or strong side end. He is the #2,305 ranked player in the 247Composite. Michigan beat Air Force and Cincinnati for his services. He literally didn't have one other P5 offer. He earned his offer last month at Michigan's camp but says he held off on committing right away.

It's a bit of a head scratcher because it's still pretty early and they didn't have to take him right now. Could've let him commit to Air Force or Cincinnati and then poached him later. Could just be a ploy to get into Belleville, a high school that's been producing highly rated prospects lately and a high school that Michigan has been pretty much shut out of for said highly rated prospects.
