Allen Patrick is the guy who recovered Oregon's onside kick in 2006.  He handed it to the zebra, whereupon the zebras awarded the ball to Oregon, who, with some additional official malfeasance, went on to win the game.

Heh!  Hard as it may be to remember now, USC was no cupcake back in 1973!

Utah State?
The 1974 Utah State Aggies football team was an American football team that represented Utah State University as an independent during the 1974 NCAA Division I football season. In their second season under head coach Phil Krueger, the Aggies compiled an 8–3 record, but were outscored by opponents by a total of 199 to 181 – principally due to a 72–3 loss to 1974 national champion Oklahoma.

the other 2 losses were to Southern Miss and San Diego St.

Utah State?
Oh, that cupcake!  ;)
OU's schedules back then had seven conference games, the OOC game vs. Texas in Dallas, and generally had two one-and-done home games and a home-and-home series with a major college opponent, or maybe two.  USC was the major college opponent in '71 and '73.  In '71, the other two games were one-and-done hosting SMU, at Pitt, and hosting USC.  In '72, it was just the three hired visitors--Utah State, Oregon, and Clemson.  In '73, it was Baylor as the hired chump, part two of the home-and-home vs. USC, and part one of a home-and-home vs. Miami (which wasn't very good at the time).
So 1972--for reasons I do not know--had a one-and-done-heavy OOC schedule and, yes, Utah State was a cupcake.  But, as Fearless pointed out, a cupcake that ended up 8-3.

Ronnie Brown
From backup RB to #2 pick in the draft.  Blew up after Cadillac Williams got hurt.
