Darrell Royal, the touch-and-go University of Oklahoma halfback, was running high wide and handsome in 1946 at Ames where the Sooners barged past the Iowa State Cyclones, 63-0, for their second straight Big Six conference victory of the season. OKLAHOMAN ARCHIVE PHOTO

Royal as a Sooner?  He was a great Sooner player, and still holds the school record for career interceptions (18).  He was a great punter and punt returner.  He also QB'd the 1949 11-0 Sooners who beat LSU in the Sugar Bowl 35-0.  Some observers claim that the '49 team was the best Sooner squad ever.
Or the pic looking a bit like a cartoon because it's been retouched?
I got that from a website that had a bunch of old photos of OU football from the Daily Oklahoman.  One from the 1946 (season) Gator Bowl vs. NC State looked like it was a black-and-white page from a coloring book.

Howard 'Touchdown' Turner tossed one scoring pass for North Carolina State in the 1947 Gator Bowl,. But, here he is being trapped for a six-yard loss during the first quarter. A teammate tries to block out the Sooners' James Tyree, but the Oklahoman made the tackle. OKLAHOMAN ARCHIVE PHOTO

That #41 for Iowa turned out to know some things about coaching football.

Question:  Would you rather be tasered or do a one-on-one Oklahoma drill vs Earl Campbell?

Desmond had the better career. "Tim" had arguably the greatest single game for his position in Michigan's history. Makes me wonder what the national record is -- altogether, versus a P5 team, and then ... versus a #2 team.
313 yards may not be the national record for all of those, but I bet it is versus a Top 5 team and  is an eye-popper all around.
