You Want To Know How Bad It Really Is?
« on: November 15, 2020, 09:03:38 AM »

Vandy hangs 35 points on a KY defense Tennessee could only scratch out 7 on.

That's how bad it is so don't expect to run the table or even a win the rest of the season.

I see that Freeze is now the flavor of the month just as Leach was before him, Kiffin was before him. Gruden was before him.
Surely you remember how Freeze left Ole Ms...on probation with lawsuits, prostitutes, a ruined reputation and a Show Cause.
There's a reason he's a Liberty...a school that's desperate to go big time and could care less what rules are broken to get there. Not likely to work in the SEC with his reputation for cheating.

And meanwhile we lose by 30 anytime we play a team with a pulse ....... and all of those flavors of the month have and will continue win way more games than Pruitt ever will

Ok...let's fire another coach. Spend the next 2-3 years paying off his contract and try to attract a  name coach that would come to a school that fires the coach as soon as he loses four games in a season when there was no spring practice and limited fall practice.
I think I've seen that movie.
Great idea!!!

I was giving Pruitt the benefit of doubt but he has proven himself incapable. I don’t know what the problems are other than horrid QB development and Pruitt seems to be a totalitarian like Saban but lacks the pedigree to obtain the respect earned to rule with an iron fist.

Pruitt also seems to have lost many players. They are not bought on for some reason. There have been too many players (and ex-players) that have said as much and where there is smoke there is likely a fire smoldering.

Speaking of horrid QB play. We have been told for several years now that JG was the best we had. Backups would come into the game and stink it up. Well, other than Maurer before he got hurt last year. They’d hand the ball of a million times and then on 3rd and 9 they’d have the backup attempt a pass making the odds extremely challenging. Then afterwards Pruitt would point toward the backups QB play in such situations to substantiate his reasoning for playing JG.

Well, just this week with JG on the sidelines while going through concussion protocol Pruitt says the QB’s have had the best practice week since he’s been at TN. That’s with HB and BM leading practices. Wow. That leads me to suspect that the backups have never really been given the opportunity to show what they could do. JG was anointed the starter because he’s been in the system longer and as such he’s a better game manager.

If, and that’s a big if, HB or BM were playing I’d be willing to give Pruitt a pass as HB or BM gained experience but I can’t waste my time watching JG. He’s tough as nails but he doesn’t have what it takes to be a gun slinger. You can tell the WR’s don’t have faith in him by the way they play vs when BM is in the game. Long term I think HB will be the guy.

There's been very little player attrition of the players Pruitt recruited.
I heard of a walk on that went into the portal a couple of weeks ago but the only other ones I'm aware of was Jones' carryovers.
I do agree that QB development has been terrible but some of that might have to do with no spring practice.
One reason Arkansas has been able to make immediate improvement was due  the QB transfer from Florida.
It had nothing to do with development.
UT never had a chance with Felepe Franks because UT supposedly had a competent  starting QB....we didn't

While I have my doubts, this year is hard to judge based on this virus. It has affected every team different and cause the so called level playing field to be very unlevel.

Players not buying in seems to be more upper classmen and not his recruits.

IMO, we need a new QB and OL coaches. Neids needs to return to his previous duties. S&C I am not sold on.

IMO, next season if we return to normal will tell the tale, however it may be two seasons before we can cut ties financially speaking

While I’ve never been a PF basher, giving Pruitt a raise and extension was dumb. The wins streak was primarily against teams we should beat and now we are stuck with Pruitt. I do believe better QB play will help a ton of the teams ailments. Sustainable and more explosive drives will pump the O and D up and give the D longer breaks to recover. The 3 and outs we suffer from now does over exaggerate the inefficiencies of our D. It appears to me that teams really start stacking it up on us when our D gets tired but when they are on the field 3/4 of the game........ With a better O our D will magically get better as well.

What I have never understood is why Pruitt has not looked toward the future and start playing the young guys that will be studs to include HB at QB. I think the fan base would be more apt to accept mistakes and loses knowing we are preparing for a much brighter future.

LB's are terrible in pass coverage over the middle.

I think they were playing for post season early on. Now go with youth, get them some real game experience.

You are right the O needs to do better than 3 and out for the D to rest. The OL has not played as it should, including Trey. Good QB play would definitely help.

I wonder if there are problems on the staff that is bleeding over to the field.

I think we desperately need a new OC. That fact that he wouldn't take a pay cut like most of the other coaches seems to be a tip off that he's not planning on returning.

I don't want what's been normal I want a coach who can win a SEC title occasionally. Normal for Tennessee for almost twenty years now has been losing and hiring loser coaches who can't field a competitive team.

I remember when our scout team could beat the likes of Vandy and Kentucky now we lose to them and can barely score.

You might be on to something there. I wonder if the game has passed him by. He was once known to be a really good OC but I’m not impressed currently. He was also once known to be a really good QB developer but now........ It would help if he wasn’t 400 pounds and had the appearance of a lazy slob making me wonder whether he’s more concerned about the local buffets than coaching the offense up.

Cut has sated several times he loves it here and wants to retire here.

With a QB that is limited his play calling is limited.

He has done a good job everywhere he has been
