internal investigation

Fulmer retiring as well

(Will move this to the Tennessee sports board latter today or tomorrow)

From the article

Jeremy Pruitt is out as Tennessee's football coach, ending one of the worst tenures in program history.

Pruitt was fired for cause Monday for alleged NCAA violations under his watch, according to University of Tennessee sources with knowledge of the situation, meaning the university will not pay his buyout.
Pruitt lasted just three seasons and leaves behind a program that is under investigation for alleged NCAA rules violations.

Additionally, athletics director Phillip Fulmer will retire, sources said, after UT hires an AD to replace him, because he wants his successor to choose the next football coach. Fulmer made the decision to step down, and his departure is not tied to the investigation.

From another report:

"Athletic director Phil Fulmer's future will also be addressed, Thamel reports."

If he were fired for cause they didn't have to come up with the money

Listening to WNML Sports Animal in Knoxville. Just speculation but they don't think UT will get out from Pruitt without some money changing hands. Jimmy Sexton is is Pruitt's agent along with almost all of the prospective coaches that UT might be interested in.
This would give Sexton leverage to demand some type of buy out for Pruitt. A lot of twists and turns going on.

Blah.  Someone has to do it.
Steele is interim but here's the problem.....Fulmer voluntarily retired in order for the new AD to hire the next coach. Depends on how long it takes UT to hire a new AD and by the time they hire someone it may be too late to hire a coach for the coming season.
On the up side...at least Steele is a UT grad

Read this morning there may be a MOI with Rodney Gardner to be the DL coach.

Agree.

I'll take a bad Tennessee man over a bad Bama man all day, every day.

Steele wouldn't be the guy I wanted long term, but maybe he can steady the ship.

It sounds like if UT fired Pruitt for cause, it is likely due to Level 1 or Level 2 NCAA violations.  Here is a breakdown on the penalties for those type of violations.
