internal investigation
Fulmer retiring as well

(Will move this to the Tennessee sports board latter today or tomorrow)
From the article
Jeremy Pruitt (https://www.knoxnews.com/story/sports/college/university-of-tennessee/football/2017/12/22/tennesseee-vols-football-jeremy-pruitt-volunteers-ut-dale-pruitt-nick-saban-alabama-gene-stallings/960727001/) is out as Tennessee's football coach, ending one of the worst tenures in program history.
Pruitt was fired for cause Monday for alleged NCAA violations under his watch, according to University of Tennessee sources with knowledge of the situation, meaning the university will not pay his buyout.
Pruitt lasted just three seasons and leaves behind a program that is under investigation for alleged NCAA rules violations.
Additionally, athletics director Phillip Fulmer will retire, sources said, after UT hires an AD to replace him, because he wants his successor to choose the next football coach. Fulmer made the decision to step down, and his departure is not tied to the investigation.

I guess we found the money?

From another report:
"Athletic director Phil Fulmer's future will also be addressed, Thamel reports."

If he were fired for cause they didn't have to come up with the money

Clearly. Glad you got the gist.

Blah. Someone has to do it.

Listening to WNML Sports Animal in Knoxville. Just speculation but they don't think UT will get out from Pruitt without some money changing hands. Jimmy Sexton is is Pruitt's agent along with almost all of the prospective coaches that UT might be interested in.
This would give Sexton leverage to demand some type of buy out for Pruitt. A lot of twists and turns going on.

Steele is interim but here's the problem.....Fulmer voluntarily retired in order for the new AD to hire the next coach. Depends on how long it takes UT to hire a new AD and by the time they hire someone it may be too late to hire a coach for the coming season.
On the up side...at least Steele is a UT grad

Read this morning there may be a MOI with Rodney Gardner to be the DL coach.

Agree.
I'll take a bad Tennessee man over a bad Bama man all day, every day.
Steele wouldn't be the guy I wanted long term, but maybe he can steady the ship.

It sounds like if UT fired Pruitt for cause, it is likely due to Level 1 or Level 2 NCAA violations. Here is a breakdown on the penalties for those type of violations.

One thing that rally concerns me is ...since UT is firing Pruitt for cause they will refer the violations to the NCAA. This will make it almost impossible to hire a name coach while under a NCAA cloud. And the NCAA has a habit of stringing NCAA investigations out for months and sometimes years.

Speculation is cranking up from AD to HC and who will be involved. Who needs the Washington S--- Show we have our own

Tennessee also fired assistant coaches Brian Niedermeyer and Shelton Felton for cause on Monday, along with seven members of the football program’s recruiting and support staff.
.....................
Plowman said Fulmer is stepping down because he wanted the next athletics director to have the opportunity to hire the football coach. Fulmer is under contact through 2023 after receiving a two-year contract extension in May.
Phillip, again, I think he’s demonstrating why he’s a legend at UT,” Plowman said. “He loves this university, and he will serve this university in whatever way we ask him to. I’m grateful to him and his family — just the way they’ve embraced UT forever.
“I really, really, really want to underscore that there’s nothing about this that indicated Phillip knew about anything. None of this had anything to do with him.”

Wake me up if there’s ever any good news associated with this dismal football program again.
Meanwhile — thank God for hoops. Wrote this on another site:
“I love how this team beats the crap out of you, without looking really spectacular. No flash. Defense. Sharing the ball. Relentless. Easily 8, 9 guys — maybe more — who can hurt you in a variety of ways.
They’re like a cobra. They just slowly squeeze the life out of you.
If you want to beat this team, you’d better shoot freakishly good from three. And hope we can’t hit anything.
And this group has only played together 11 times. If they can stay healthy, and keep their heads on straight, by the end of the season…”

Lets see if UT is smart enough to offer the AD job to David Blackburn this time who they should have hired instead of Fulmer. The bigger question, would he take it if offered after they way he was shunned and shown no respect by Tennessee by hiring Fulmer who had zero experience as an AD while Blackburn was an experienced AD.
I heard Chris Low on Finebaum mention some dick weed for AD that had ties to Alabama. :sign0065:

I heard an interesting name come up this afternoon for AD...Charles Davis. Don't know if he would be interested or not but he would certainly check all of the requirements,

I suspect the search has gone on for a few days and they have someone in mind.

I would love Charles Davis for AD.

I've heard his name mentioned before probably be another good choice. Certainly a Tennessee man and bleeds orange.
I keep hearing Hugh Freeze for HC he may be a great coach but we don't need someone who has already been in trouble with the NCAA when were looking at violations now.

Based on how the press conference today, I doubt the administration would allow Freeze to be hired

I guess he didn't realize that you can't get away with stuff at Tennessee that you can get away with on a regular basis at Bama.

Pruitt learned at the foot of the master.
BAMA has the best players money can buy some even have to take a pay cut to play in the NFL
snip:
Other coaches in college football think he's cheating:
"If you had the No. 1 recruiting class in the country every year [you'd win like Nick Saban]," an anonymous coach told Chip Patterson (https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/candid-coaches-who-are-the-most-overrated-and-underrated-college-football-coaches/) of CBSSports.com. "He shows up at every single game with a better roster than the teams he's playing." If you count cheating and getting the best players in the country as part of running a program, he's the best in the country," the coach added. "It's like saying an NFL coach is the best coach in the league if he gets 25 first-round picks every year."
