Me too. I haven't had a ton of confidence in TN since 2007. Butch has made some good hires and recruited well but I haven't seen it translate well on the field. They have had flashes of excellence but then they lose to teams like Vandy which is a bottom feeder program.

We shall see shortly. Keeping my fingers crossed.

So far, I'm not impressed with the TN's O or D. Borderline pathetic. Hopefully they get their shit together before it's too late.

I thought it was dumb for Tech to go for 2.  UT can't stop you all night, the longer the game goes the better the chance you outlast them.  I mean you're gonna score in 3OT.  Why force it to come down to one play where anything can happen, which it did? Your chances of a third TD in OT are better than UT's.

Gutsy game by the Vols.  Callaway (sp?...#1) made some clutch catches and blocked like a damn rock star away from the ball all night.  Every time a back got free he was out on the perimeter cleaning some db out.

I'd still be very worried about both lines, but I suspect fans won't let that suck the wind out of their sails this week.

benson (tech rb) is a dang bowling ball... it's not that he is easy to stop in terms of pure running power, it's that there seems to be no way to get a grip on him from the side... either you meet that guy head on, and his power/center of gravity/low profile makes that difficult, or you go along for the ride.  he doesn't seem to have legs- he just rolls.

the UT D was winded last night by halfway into the second.  The O was fresh pretty much all night.  that is a good thing most weeks, but weeks like this yo kinda want them to get their reps in- they did, ultimately, but it wasn't pretty.

Dormandy (sp?) played better than i expected him to- his completion percentage was down, but that was all on the receiver seemingly afraid to catch the ball or something.  he seemed to maintain poise throughout the game.  five things though:  he throws into traffic (if that were UF's d, there would have been at least four picks last night), he stares down the receiver, he doesn't check off but instead targets the first option, and he doesn't screen the hand off too well.  ..... but he's def something to 'work with', and i think he'll be fine as the season progresses.

Tech would have had the ball first in third OT, which is a disadvantage, so going for 2 made sense to me.

Both teams seemed able to move at will, so being able to covert the two seemed like a decent option to me.

Imagine Tech had a holding penalty or somesuch in OT3 and kicked of FG or worse.

The team with less talent/depth should go for 2.  That's GT.  It made sense.

Watch a replay of that 50 yard TD by Callaway.  Look at the GT safety's angle as Callaway starts down the sideline.  WTF?!?!?!?  I can't even begin to understand it.

I see your points, built on general axioms, but given the actual game that transpired, I have a lot more faith in GT to score another TD than UT.  UT caught fire at the end, but it felt a lot more tenuous than GT who flat out dominated UT on offense all night, and never stopped.  If you're GT, you're going to score another TD in OT.  That's not even a question, and it's why having the ball first in 3OT is meaningless.  At that point you go for two, when you have to.  But make sure you get to that point, rather than gambling that UT finally makes their one play on defense all night.  UT might accidentally make a good defensive play in 3OT, but they're not going to make 3 or 4, being the number of downs GT has to pick up a first or get in the endzone.

Letting it ride on one play was a gamble, and I don't think there was a need to gamble.  Tech played them fine all night straight up.
