I should clarify that sequence of events, so that youse guys know that I'm not as dumb as that sounds. Of course, Florida was sent to the NC first, causing the Sugar to need a replacement, so they took LSU. I think the way I worded that last post makes it sound like the wrong order.

Unrelated, but Josh Reed is underrated, nationally. His 2001 season was obscene.

Guys from mid-major schools have always had massive receiving seasons, with 90-100+ receptions, but going back to 1995 (just randomly), here's the leading P4-5-6 receivers each year:
95 - Keyshawn Johnson 90 rec
96 - Reidel Anthony/Kevin Lockett 72
97 - Troy Walters 86
98 - Dameane Douglas 100 (never heard of this guy, somehow - Cal)
99 - Chris Daniels 109 (thanks, Brees)
00 - Kevin Kasper 82 Iowa
01 - REED 92
02 - Rashaun Woods 107
03 - Wes Welker 97
04 - Braylon Edwards 97
05 - Dwayne Jarrett 91
06 - 2 Texas Tech guys, 91, 89
07 - Crabtree 134 (whoa)
08 - Jeremy Maclin 102

So leading up to Leach in Lubbock, it was 70s-80s (I assume, for the vast majority pre-1995), and then 90s-100s.
Reed averaged 18.5 yards per reception on his 92 catches. Most of these guys are under 15 ypc.

I would think it's harder to get those numbers on a team that still loves to run the ball so much, but he had good chemistry with Davey, and as I recall, Saban didn't let his love for running undercut an advantage he knew he had, even way before his offensive mindset redo at Bama.

Heupel told the fans at SEC Media Days to get the mustard and the golf balls ready. Should be rowdy. Can't even imagine when they go into Oxford.

I glanced at a something about "media days" and watched maybe 3 minutes of Kirby talking. I guess they aren't for me. And he's pretty boring usually, which I view as a good thing.

The media predict whose going to win the SEC and surprisingly on occasion they are right.

One LSU website pegs their five toughest games this year as follows:

1. Texas
2. @Ole Miss
3. A&M
4. Alabama
5. @Tennessee

I guess this could go on the rankings thread. Probably as good a list as any, though. Seeing Alabama that far down the list feels odd, but maybe it is the case. They tried to factor in not just the quality of the team, but the externals particular to LSU. i.e., going into Oxford and Neyland where Kiffin is reviled, A&M physically bullying LSU the last few years, maybe it's in their heads now, etc.

Guess we'll see. This seems like as good a list as any to look for our five inevitable losses.

"The Tide don't lose in Baton Rouge," so I might have put them higher on the list, regardless of how good they might or might not be.

A&M.....I guess I should thank them since they ran off Brian Kelly for us. But it's also their fault we're stuck with Kiffin, so.....I hope we go ahead and kick the stuffing out of them. Get back to making them regret ever having to come to BR.....back when that was an automatic L for them, usually an embarrassing one.

I don't believe in Ole Miss without Kiffin.

They still have Trinidad Chambliss, who was a very problematic QB last year. And they're going to be beyond jacked when we come to town. It will be an emotionally and mentally tough game, however good they are or aren't.

That may work both ways.

In 2007, LSU should have been able to handily defeat Alabama, which, they did for a while. But the emotions of facing Saban for the first time since he ditched LSU entered in, and the team started playing pretty sloppy, and three interceptions later, a ho-hum Gump squad lead LSU with six minutes to go. There were some last minute heroics to come out on top, but LSU should never have trailed in that game.

Wouldn't the 2007 squad mostly be devoid of Saban players leftover from his days at LSU? I know things were way different then before the Portal and all but we're talking two full seasons and working on the 3rd when that game happened. I'm sure it was emotional for the fans etc but I wonder how the players really felt. Afterall, they were still pretty successful under Miles. And if I'm not mistaken, they took their two loss record and won the MNC anyways that year.
