Yuck.  When 130 opened back in 2009(?) I could fly north/south at 85 mph with not very many other cars on the road.

I was looking at LSU's early schedule this morning, and though I realized I probably won't remember this year's games any better than I remember the last several years', the early slate should still be interesting, even if I don't care much.

Week 1 - Clemson - that should be interesting just for being a recently successful P5 team for an opener.  And there will probably be a lot of curiosity about what LSU looks like under Kiffin.

Week 3 - Ole Miss - I expect the national interest level will be up for that one, not to mention the two fanbases.  If Oxford treats Kiffin the way we treated Saban when he returned to Death Valley, he's in for an epic heckling.

Week 4 - Texas A&M - always interesting, and iirc, they're the team who caused the admin to fire Brian Kelly, so that's something of a story-line.

On the same webpage I was looking at last year's games and I can't believe how many of these games I don't remember.  I never thought there would come a time when I didn't remember which teams we played on which years, or who won.  For example, I see we played Vanderbilt last year, and Houston in the bowl game, and lost to both.  All I could say to that is "That sounds right, from my general impression of last year."  Also we appear to have played Florida very early, and I was like WTF?  What's that about?

I'm pretty sure it's not because I'm old or because the team has been mediocre or poor.  I remember details of many awful seasons, so it's not just bad seasons or failing memory.  No, the fact that I vividly recall seasons up to the point that the sport just started leaving me behind signifies why I haven't cared enough to remember these games, even though I still watch them.

So by this time next year, I don't expect to necessarily remember these games or their results, but at the moment I can say that at the time I watch them, they'll probably be "interesting."

Oh, and I just noticed, no Florida this year.  When's the last time that happened?

Yep, that's later in the year.  My dad is really looking forward to that one, seems like.

In a way, I kind of admire his brand of fandom, and wish I'd stayed there.  I don't think he keeps up with much news or "politics" of the game.  He knows about NIL and stuff, but he never delved into, followed it, or worried about it.  Same as he never followed recruiting.  He just looked forward to the season, trusted that we were gonna have some guys, and then waited to see how things shake out.

I was a lot like that prior to my message board days.  It was Buckeyecraaazy, I think, who first asked me early on about a recruit and I admitted to her I didn't know what she was talking about, I didn't follow recruiting.  So I started, so I could join in more conversations and it gave my interest and fandom something to focus on during the off-season.  And I started keeping track of other things I never paid attention to....kind of a snowball effect.

If I weren't keenly aware of how cfb works right now, I wouldn't understand how much I don't like it anymore, and I'd probably just be like my dad.....blissfully ignorant and waiting to see how things shake out.

Yeah the 24/7 sports news cycle has ruined a lot of the fun in sports.  The internet and social media are part of that,  but ESPN and the other dedicated cable sports networks began the downfall in the 90s I'd say.

Well, we threw mustard bottles and golf balls at his head, so maybe the Rebs will up the ante.

And he has a return trip to Knoxville in Novembers, so who knows......maybe a baseball this time?
