I was called a maroon once.  Or twice.

The thing I find much more disturbing about the SEC, is all of the mascot repeats.  How many Tigers or Bulldogs can there be?  Doesn't anyone believe in originality anymore?

UGA used to be the Goats.  I think the mascots predated the league.

Alabama is the Red Elephants.  UNC is some ram thingee.

I love our mascot.  It's regionally significant, it's unique, and Bevo looks cool.  Especially when he's about to gore a tiny little bulldog... ;)

UGA attended every bowl game except one in Hawaii, they require quarantine for pets there for six months.

It would be great to see Texas and USC back in play, I think.  Of course, an elite USC would do a Clemson on the Pac, which wouldn't be so fun.

Have this many Blue Blood teams been down for this long in the past 50 years?  Can Nebraska ever get back?  I doubt it.

I dunno.  Texas is now at 12 year of suckitude and counting.  USC has been down most of that time as well, but I seem to recall them having a couple of good years thrown in?  Of course Texas also had one good year in the midst of the crapdom, with a Sugar Bowl win against some SEC power as I recall.  But the other 11 years have been lower than low.

As for Nebraska?  It's hard to imagine them never getting back.  But when I think about what it would take for them to get back to being a true helmet, it definitely seems like a stretch.  I don't think leaving the B12 and the exposure in Texas, while now being forced to compete for recruits in the midwest's already B1G blue-blood dominated areas, is going to do them any favors.  But I don't see any reason why they couldn't at least get up to Wisconsin-level success.

Texas just needs the right coaching, which they will stumble across at some point.  USC is more iffy, they may have a good coach, or not.  I agree Nebraska is probably seeing a limit of about ten wins prebowl now in a very good year.  Ohio State will remain hyperconsistent.

Alabama post-Saban will be interesting.  UGA could creep into the discussion with another couple NCs and consistent playoff appearances.  That could take a decade.  Or they could Clemson (who will be interesting to watch this year).  Michigan at least won the B1G and made the playoff, which sort of picks them up now of course.

OU is hanging tough, as is ND so far.  ND has a rep of course they need to shake somehow.

I did this on the B1G board, but all it got was mocked by their resident asshole and the made an identical, new post about it.
.
Here's a take on the 16-team SEC with 3 annual rivals for each team.  Remember, no divisions.
Alabama - Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss
Auburn - Alabama, Georgia, Miss St
Georgia - Auburn, Florida, Carolina
Florida - Georgia, Carolina, Vanderbilt
Carolina - Florida, Kentucky, Georgia
Kentucky - Carolina, Missouri, Tenneessee
Missouri - Kentucky, Oklahoma, Arkansas
OU - Missouri, A&M, Texas
A&M - OU, Texas, LSU
Texas - A&M, Arkansas, OU
Arkansas - Texas, LSU, Missouri
LSU - Arkansas, Miss St, A&M
Miss St - LSU, Ole Miss, Auburn
Ole Miss - Vanderbiilt, Miss St, Alabama
Vanderbilt - Ole Miss, Tennessee, Florida
Tennessee - Vanderbilt, Alabama, Kentucky
.
Some notes:
Usually, for an entire conference, you'd have trouble spreading out games vs big-boy programs, but here, we have plenty of those
A&M probably has the toughest trio here
Someone has to/gets to play Vandy
Each team has at least 2 it would love to play
The weakest links among those is probably UK-MIZ, OU-MIZ, and VAN-OM
.
I've heard that SEC teams will submit 5 preferred teams they'd like to be among their annual 3, and the SEC will work to make that happen.  The difficulty is whether the strong programs wanting to play other strong programs (relevance) vs weak ones (built-in wins) and the opposite - the weak programs preferring strong or weak opponents.
switch the ole miss, msu, bama, and au pairings (i.e. bama/msu, au/ole miss) and looks good to me.

Teams in red are awful.  Crimson, cardinal, scarlet, maroon, whatever-- truly the worst.
