Fellas it's on tonight. Wisconsin and Illinois kick us off at 8 pm ET. The Big Ten Network rises from the dead. My wife works tonight so it'll be me and screaming children watching as the season kicks off. The Badgers look for revenge on Lovie. I've been loathe to even comment on games for fear they wouldn't happen, so hopefully nothing changes in the next 12 hours.
-
Well if it's cancelled we'll know who to blame counsel!!! 😎
-
I was supposed to have an event tonight, but someone caught a test, so I’ll have to get takeout and watch UW football.
Tough break.
-
Woo hoo!!
A new stream is upon us. I renamed the 2020 stream, as there were some who thought it should stay. It will die of natural causes, I'm sure, now that we have these going again.

That's called winning.
-
Was going to rip out the kitchen floor.Might put it off for Fri/Sat

that sweet 60's linoleum??? no

dern, I bumped that thread
-
the local bar here is having an oyster feed tonight - oysters on the half shell, oyster stew, and fried oyster Po Boy sammiches
I'll have to go right after work and be home by 7.
interested in both West teams - see how dangerous Lovie might be
-
WOO HOO! The world is starting to make sense again. It's been a long wait but I'm sure it will be worth it.
-
8PM start for us. Normally pour a drink at 4:30 on a Friday. Gonna have to wait this time, or I'll miss the game!!
-
This is why people need 3 TVs, October!
-
I can check in on the Dodgers losing during commercial timeouts
-
that sweet 60's linoleum??? no
Ed Zachery with plywood underlayment and 1/16th" tile under that.So have to take out the Linoleum & UL or the transition from the hall/living room will be like at least an inch prolly more with the vinyl plank flooring on top
-
We went with the waterproof vinyl plank. Absolutely love it.
-

Oh that's what that is. A friend's apartment had that and I never knew exactly what i was standing on.
I've also gotten up too early and exercised. A nap might be in the works today. Need to settle on the takeout for the night. I'm feeling festive.
-
For takeout, the one thing we don't have to worry about is American Chinese food. Nobody actually ever eats IN an American Chinese restaurant, right? So, they are fine.
-
I don't do take out
-
In Illinois you'd have no choice again.
-
we had some take out italian beef in Illinois one evening about 12 years ago
fantastic
-
That reminds me of Baltimore Pit beef or sumsuch.Have had similiar sammiches but never thse exact two
-

I think it's been longer than that. We moved from that house in 2007 or so.
-
Mrs. 847 just got back from the farmer's market, and again came back without a farmer, which is fine.
She did get 4 giant stone crab claws though. Dinner plans are evolving now.
-
Didn't know the farmer had crabs - lucky guy

Everything is so damn late in the Eastern Time Zone. That's going to be a hard one to get used to.
-
Yeah, it's weird right now. Doesn't get light until about 7:30 or so. Not used to that.
-
Well in a week it will be getting light an hour earlier, and dark an hour earlier.
-
Yep. I think I like that better. I'm generally up by 5AM every day.
-
Yeah, it's weird right now. Doesn't get light until about 7:30 or so. Not used to that.
June is crazy here in IN. Light until 10pm.
-
The time zones get crazy around here, where Utah, Nevada and Arizona all intersect. One state is on Mountain time, on is on Pacific time, and one oscillates back and forth between the two essentially, as they don't recognize daylight savings time. As if that wasn't enough to keep track of in and of itself, there are some border towns that use the time of a neighboring state instead of their own.
-

You've never had Christmas with my family. (We actually only did that like once or twice)
-
Yep. I think I like that better. I'm generally up by 5AM every day.
So when I was in college, I thought CST was perfect for sports. Now I live EST, but when I go home to Ca., sports are over by 10:30 at the latest.
I didn't have a strong feeling for that as a kid, but now I miss it.

from recent interviews the answer is no but who knows with lovie he might be able to grow that thing in like 2 days
-
Yes. Finally. Big Ten Football!
-
Why are the mascots banned?
They have the thickest mask in town, and they can socially distance. Stick 'em back by the uprights, and let them do their thing.
-
Looking to see signs of why my Buckeyes tried to pilfer this Badger QB.
-
Ready and able to watch. Stone crab.. damn. It is GOOD to be a Floridian.
On, Wisconsin!!
-
Man that's an empty stadium
-
Liked that touchdown throw from Mertz
-
I know the lights are fixed to the press box, but Camp Randall lighting is not good. The angle just isn't good.
-

You're not gonna just sit there and take that, are ya Badge?
:098:
-
My views of lighting and quality of TV viewing are not correlated to rooting interests. Ex. Day games at Miller Park are the fing worst sight lines in just about any ballpark or stadium in America. Shadows are horrible. Love the Crew.
My favorite night game lighting in sports. LSU. Michigan State also looks really good . Northwestern's lighting is absolutely dreadful. USC is bad on TV, though not bad in person. Wrigley is lousy w its lighting. Two long Banks down the baselines only.
-
Mertz looks good to me already. He has that “it” factor.
Competent starting Frosh QB— is that allowable?
-
That's a fumble rooski
-
I don't like the stadiums that the lights are only in the 4 corners. It might put enough light down onto the field, but the shadows look awful on TV. Illinois, Missouri come to mind.
Washington is probably the best lighting in college football.
-
Mertz looks great. The defense looks great. The running game...a little meh
-
I mean how does Illinois give that up with 30 seconds left. They are kind of a mess. Peters keeps throwing to the same guy, who is never open.
-
Update: This is good.
-
it's WAY better than nothing
-
nothing was what the Big brass was willing to swallow
dumbasses
-
Watson is still not very good. This is gonna be weird.
-
I hope it's eerily weird in C-bus tomorrow morning
-
Man that's an empty stadium
Students were late again.

I'm with you there.
-

He completed 20-of-21 passes for a 95.2% completion percentage, the best ever in a single game by a Badgers quarterback. His five touchdowns tied a single-game program record and his 17 completions to start the game tied the most consecutive passes completed by a Wisconsin quarterback in a single game.
-
Like I said, that injury sucks for the kid, but was the best thing for Wisconsin
-

Yes I actually posted that quite early in the game before he amassed all of those brilliant statistics.
-
It's early, and it was Illinois, but this kid could be a game changer. Need a solid TB to emerge.
Hate to say it, but I'm done with the Watson experiment. The kid is not a Big Ten tailback, and more certainly not a UW tailback. He's not even PJ Hill.
-
So this is the year that Wisconsin has their "Lydell Ross" at starting RB?
-
The defense is stellar and the QB looks the best since Wilson. Need to get their running game in order and then they are a contender.
-
Like I said, that injury sucks for the kid, but was the best thing for Wisconsin
Was that a UW QB?
-
So this is the year that Wisconsin has their "Lydell Ross" at starting RB?
Whadya mean,an unherladed prospect?
-
Was that a UW QB?
Yeah, the senior starter. Broken foot.
-
So this is the year that Wisconsin has their "Lydell Ross" at starting RB?
Kinda. Five years ago, the starter had concussion issues all year. They ended up relying most on the third-down back with a Ross-esqe No. 2 option and a HS QB-turning into a fullback as a change-up.
At the moment, the Ross-esque guy seems to be the lead, though the third-down back is better than him. And the spicy backup is a former WR who keeps bouncing between the positions.
-
Chryst changing it up trying to find what works - smart
-
Whadya mean,an unherladed prospect?
When your first string RB sucks.
-
so from a rival fan.
Wisconsin looked very tough last night.
tough defense
new young QB that looks like a BigTen QB (top end)
yeah the running game was a little down but they really picked up the pace passing
they will be the team to beat in the west
-
Not ready to proclaim that yet. The OL had its issues too - but I think they will sort that out. Would like to see Deitzen at LG, and Bruss at RG, and Beach at RT.
-
Whadya mean,an unherladed prospect?
The joke is that Ross was very heralded?
-
Tonight we get Minny at Maryland. Both fresh off getting their butts kicked. I'm gonna go ahead and conclude that Maryland is trash, so bit of a bell cow on what Minnesota is giving us this year
-

They are almost certainly giving us the Big Ten's worst defense

it's not pretty

Maryland defense - still trash

Whoa. Gophers defense is horrible. I thought last week was an aberration....not the case. :'(

2 bad defenses

Poor Damn terps

Poor Damn terps
No doubt. They keep shooting themselves in the foot as they’re about to go into score. They have more yards from scrimmage than Minnesota does

They already have more yards than Michigan had last week

overtime

I'm sorry Michigan fans. Win last week looks less impressive.

friggin kicker

How about that
-
Big Ten East!
-
That was a majestic sort of a game.
-
Xiing on Friday night!
-
Roe the Wade.
-
Todd Graham at Hawaii feels like a natural ending for him
-
That one will shake up the power rankings.
-
fear the turtle!
-
Minnesota’s defense is pretty bad. Maryland’s too. Reminded me of a Big East game in the old days.
-
Hot take:
Hot Seat for PJ Barnum!!
-
Wyoming looked good, though Hawaii w a pretty big overhaul of system, plus 7,200 ft, plus piles of snow surrounding you, they had no chance.
-
A little B1G action here in a bit
-
I'm watching
Gopher defense doesn't look good
-
I'm watching avatar with the family, hoping to sneak off here in a bit
-
The Bearcats are winning.
-
Bacon for breakfast.
I'm more convinced that Minnesota is that bad rather than Iowa is that good.
-
Gopher defense is rough
Gopher QB had a rough night. Many poor throws. On the good throws there were many drops.
-
Iowa QB is pretty brutal. I'm trying to be patient, but Jake Christensen comparisons are becoming more prevalent.
-
Man, Kirk wasn't super nice after that. I'v read the other coaches aren't a fan of PJ's quirks, which is interesting if not surprising.
-
Kirk is usually not the type to do much that comes off as petty. He is also the type that would have probably just run out the clock if he was on the other side of this game. The fact that Minnesota had their first team in against our back-ups and was calling timeout with 19 seconds left seems to have made him a little salty.
Kirk Ferentz: "We figured we'd take Floyd with us and leave the timeouts here."
-
Man, Kirk wasn't super nice after that. I'v read the other coaches aren't a fan of PJ's quirks, which is interesting if not surprising.
Kirk is super petty, and he'll make sure you know whether he respects you or not.
Minnesota called the first timeout. Iowa called the next three. Message sent I guess.
-

Petras has quite an arm. I would like to see more accuracy. If I were 6'5" pretty sure with that leverage I'd have quite an arm too, and would like to see more accuracy from it.
The backup is always better than the 1st string QB for fans in this circumstance. I am a fan pining to see backup, Alex Padilla.
-

Fine by me.
Shouldn't be surprising at all.

Ed Zachery
besides, Kirk is old and grumpy
-
yeah the 1st To was a message the 2nd was Kirk being a jerk and the 3rd is Kirk being a Jack A**
the point he made was what?
don't call a TO on me to try to score?
don't play your 1st stringers that obviously needed some more practice?
how dare you try to break up a shut out
I saw nothing wrong with the gophers calling a TO as the clock would run after the ball was set on a first down
I saw a huge problem with the coaching not getting Morgan out 3 series before this one but that is not a slant on Iowa and Iowa should have taken it as a respect that we continued to fight until the last seconds.
Hey Kirk you dont want the team to score on your JV then put your guys back in. did the game change either way? hey I bet those officials really liked you exercising your right to be a DBag
-
I think Barnum should have had his backups in too. That's how you build depth. Screw trying to score. Build a team.
-
If this is true, holy :96:! How is this game happening?

If it's less than 15 with the virus, they can play if they choose to play, and they think they can do it safely. I don't think they should play, as there could be more players infected that are not testing positive yet. Doesn't mean they can't still spread it.
This happened in Madison too. After they cancelled with 12 players positive, 8 more tested positive days later. Had they played UNL, there probably would have been an outbreak in Lincoln too.
-
20 players that are contact traced- COVID positive-injured-or opted out
meaning if we had 105 total players we are now down to 85 total
-
Any announcement as to which players are out?
-
Sounds like we may get to see Rondale Moore tonight

-
And a nice drive by Purdue, with Rondale getting the score
-
no defense yet
-
lol
not sure many coaches will give that info injuries and COVID are protected by HIPPA and our team never says anything until pregame warm ups
I think HIPAA technically covers all injuries the same as COVID. And I think the coaches are technically under no obligation to protect that. They do it because they don’t have to say, which is fine.
-
Purdue's rush defense is...
...wait. I don't think there's an acceptable adjective for something that is imaginary.
-
Big review
-
Ouch that's a kick in the balls
-
Is Purdue planning on showing up tonight?
-
Ballsy call by Fleck plays off
-
Ballsy call by Fleck plays off
... or highly lucky.
-
WOW!
Purdue lead wiped away and next play ball picked.
-
BS BS BS.
-
Never seen a weaker offensive PI call in my 42 years of life.
-
Wow. Have to think that despite being weak....the ref saw the extended arm and decided it was time to give the Gophers the make up call for the PI that led to Purdue getting a TD rather than having a FG try.
-
So, I watched the announcers show the replay, and it seemed to me the Reciever did iniate contact, but the defender held his arm and that is why it was extended.
I also have never seen a weaker PI call made. (Offense or Defense)
-
Feels like the officials really messed up twice in that drive. Both went against the boilers.
-

It was VERY weak. Had to have been a makeup call from the previous Purdue drive that gave them a new four at the Minnesota five yard line on a phantom PI.
Honestly....Purdue probably still would have scored a touchdown and won if they hadn't thrown a terrible pick at the end.
-
Could the B1G West be as bad as the B1G East?
Nah...
-
https://twitter.com/Scrappy937/status/1329997479497117696
-
An unnecessary arm extension and push. But it wasn't technically a wrong call on closer look. Just one that may or may not get called at a certain time or place.
Again....think if not for the phantom PI on the previous drive....it may not be called.
-
That’s a good look at it.
Do you have one of the interception then reception then incomplete?
-

No.

I've certainly seen weaker defensive PI called. But considering they'll let the receivers do whatever they want normally, that is easily the weakest offensive PI I can think of
-
By the way....this is the DPI they called on the previous Purdue drive. This gave them a first down at the five when it should have been around 4th and 7. Instead of a 4th down try or a FG attempt....Purdue easily scored a TD on the very next play.
All in all.....refs were making poor calls down the stretch.....and I wouldn't be surprised if the OPI was a makeup call.
https://twitter.com/RASH0DBATEMAN/status/1330002833991741440
-
I love Off PI calls, not called nearly enough, relative to DPI, but I was quite surprised by that one. I heard about this call via text and was expecting to see a Keith Jackson '86 level push off of Broderick Thomas type move, but I'm not seeing it.

I'm guessing the Axe game will not be played next week.
-
Turned the game on at the start of the 3rd Qtr.I saw 5 fantastic catches in that quarter.Couldn't believe it-was like a highlight reel.I dozed off with like 13 min left and Minny was up by 4.When I woke up it was 1:30 and BTN was lamenting how Purdue got jobbed and they were right. This is why Each coach should be able to question any call once a quater.Break for commercials it won't lengthen the game. And Kudos to the gophs for playing without half the roster.
Upon further review perhaps it was the right call.Anyway some controversy to go both ways and entertaining to watch
-
calls, good and bad and questionable, are part of the game
PJ Barnum is busy rowing
great win for a team short some players and coaches due to COVID
-
I'm guessing the Axe game will not be played next week.
That would almost certainly knock Wisconsin out of CG contention.
Obviously that would suck for Wisconsin. Pending the outcome of today's game at noon it would also impact tOSU/IU.
It might be ok if there is another cancelation such that UW can play another team.
-

It would put them below the six game requirement. It would be interesting though....if two Big Ten games were cancelled....if those two teams could set something up?

easy resolution
forfeit
take a loss if you can't field a team
dumbass Big Ten
-
I'm guessing the Axe game will not be played next week.
no it probably will
just because fans are stupid and say things like we should cancel the game PJ (yeah the guy you make fun of) will not, he will play short handed for the betterment of the game and conference.
however if more cases flow then the conference might shut it down but I doubt that comes form the coaches or AD. heck if being shorthanded counted we would have called off the first game with Michigan as we were short a lot of major players then too(and still are for various reasons)
-

Hope they can BT2
-
they did Friday night
-
I could go on and on about losing guys like.... we are using a holder for a punter and the Kicker is months out from hernia surgery but those are excuse's or facts depending on your perspective. bottom line is games will get you better and playing is a lot better than sitting them out
our defense is young and its no fault but the coaches for not recruiting guys 2 years ago to cover when you send players to the NFL. but I have heard a point of view that they are the Northwestern of last year. We will see
but PJ will play the game if allowed to there wont be any "let's cancel to screw our rivals"
with that said Wisconsin will and should dominate the game next week and once again we will see the Axe stay in Madison

Getting some Black Friday football today

I'm up cooking. Doing Thanksgiving food tomorrow, so doing some advance work. Dressings, cranberry sauce, mac and cheese, and try to operate on this turkey. No matter how long I leave it in the fridge it always seems to be a big block of ice.
-
I'm thankful the Huskers are playing the Hawks on Black Friday
especially this season, 1st the original schedule had the Gophers this weekend, 2nd COVID could have canceled the entire season
might not be thankful for the outcome of the game, but...........
-
There is also a little bit of MACtion.

Brine?
When I did Thanksgiving last Saturday, I bought the turkey on Thursday from Costco thinking they were fresh, not frozen. It was a block of ice as well, and I knew in NO way would a 16# turkey thaw in the fridge in two days.
So I brined it (in the fridge, although if it's frozen you can do it on the countertop to start because the frozen turkey will chill the water enough). Found something I think on lifehacker.com that had an Alton Brown video explaining it.
It ended up fully defrosting, and the brine helps with taste and moisture in the finished product anyway.

Yeah that would do it. I ended up letting it sit in the package in water for any hour or so until it was soft enough to at least try and open. My preferred method is to spatchcock it then let it dry brine in the fridge overnight. I had to run some hot water in the cavity but eventually got it working.

I don't mind jinxing Herman.

In February 2020 Campbell turned down Little Brother, MSU. Perhaps he is not enamored with the State of Michigan. Iowa State re-wrote his contract and I think he agreed to a big buyout. Not that Michigan could not afford a buy-out, but I don't think this will happen at the end of 2020.
I am going on memory on the big buy-out, which is not fail-safe.
I still like your meme.
-
Iowa doinks it and Nebraska has a shot
When Nebraska joined the Big Ten and won the 1st two games in the renewed series, my thoughts were, "What makes anyone think that this is a rivalry game deserving of the last game of the season?"
Actually, despite the fact Iowa leads the "Big Ten Iowa-Nebraska Series" 7-3, the 2018 and 2019 games were 3-point games, and 2020 a 6-point game, and Nebraska could very easily have won these three games. It is becoming a rivalry game.
Unlike most other schools, Iowa now has four-rivalry games. Rivalries become diluted when they are either not competitive, or are too numerous.
I personally would like to reduce the # of games played against Iowa State, and that happened to work out well this year, for me.

Central beat Eastern, can you believe it?
Additionally, Liberty edged UMass 45-0.

In the fog, the Beavs are playing fast and making Oregon look slow.
-
Game is falling apart.

Oregon St is fixin to get screwed at home in their upset bid.
-
Jefferson got no carries during that end . Stupid. Glad Beavers got the score. Robbed on review
-
Good. If Oregon St hadn’t got in the end zone there I was going to be pissed for them. Beavers now up 41-38 with 33 seconds left.
-
Damn I missed 2 good one Stanford-Cal 24-23 the Cardinal and Ducks/Beavs with State whizzing in their cheerios

Yeah, I saw the very end of the Civil War. Cannot believe that OSU3 pulled it out.

Played the 9 hole course this morning and got paired up with a Cal alum. He was talking about how his dad (Oregon alum) called him after the Cal/Stanford game to gloat... So he called his dad at 5 AM this morning to rub the OrSU upset in.
It's not good to gloat on a weekend before your own game has been played lol...

almost went to the course for a 12:40 tee time
Don't usually have 54 degrees and sunny with a light breeze on the 28th
decided I'd stay home and do some other things - crazy!
