utee - I read them all too.  Matt Christopher was the author.  Touchdown for Tommy was one of them.  That's all I remember right now.

I read them circa 2nd and 3rd grade.

Well I don't know if I read them *all*, but I'm pretty sure I read about half on that football list, and several baseball books as well.  Seems like I read a couple of basketball books too.

All of the stories (that I remember) used to involve a kid playing little league, pop warner, whatever you call it.  I was a fool for books like that.

Yeppers, that's it.

I also played with any board games I could get my hands on involving sports.  A few I can remember:

* Talking Football (with the little records that you would put into the player)
* Monday Night Football (I think the field lit up telling you the results)
* Electric Football (went through about 5 of these as a kid, ordered various teams thru the mail)
* Electric Baseball (kinda dumb, cool to watch the runners run the bases)
* NFL Strategy (this one was more sophisticated, it was cool as I got older)
* Hockey (where you would slide the players up and down their slots)

and lots of others involving boards and cards (mostly football related)

Electric football sucked.  But it had me mesmerized.  The players looked cool.  The games looked so cool in the Sears Christmas catalog.  But in practice it was worthless!  The passer/kicker and that little felt booger?  You would have better luck flinging that piece of felt out the door, across the hall, and into the bathroom - much easier than trying to flip it 20 "yards" on that metal field.

Derailment.  I only apologize because uterin started this thread.  Otherwise I don't apologize.  We'll be talking about beans or no beans by page 3 anyway.

I'm not much of a gamer and haven't heard of any of those, but don't care if they are up for discussion.   I used to play Jeopardy on the original Nintendo and used to rock that game, and Dr. Mario with all the little pills that was kind of like Tetris.  Those are about the only ones I played with any frequency, but nothing sports that I can remember.   Mortal Kombat was fun, at least they had some chick characters that weren't just princesses needing to be saved.

Why break up when we can continue on with our dysfunctional and circular conversations that bring so much passion to the internet?  Sometimes the discussions about beans or no beans are the reason I come here anymore.   God knows it isn't to brag about my team, lol.  ;)

All I know is I felt really bad for some of you folks over here the other night.

My kitchen gave birth to the most awesome batch of black bean chili that has ever darkened the doors of my pie hole.  Got the seasonings just right, some homecut fries on the side, and washed it with Shiner.

What a shame to miss out on such ecstasy...

I mean, Marisa Tomei could say "it's either me or the chili" and I would have to take pause.

And then I would choose Marisa but dammit I'm telling you that was some divine chili.

Apparently Tom Cruise did a football movie before he went all crazy.  I wonder if it's any good.  Says one of the Producers was Lucille Ball.
It was a bit before my movie-viewing time, I wonder if it was a flop or if it would be one of those funny 80's movies that is still entertaining today:

HBO and Cinemax played that movie 47 times a month in 1984.  I'm sure every young man my age remembers Lea Thompson and the incredible impression she made in that movie.  By the time she starred as Michael J. Fox's mom in "Back to the Future" the next year, she was already right up there with Fast Time's Jennifer Jason Leigh and Phoebe Cates as the talented young actresses that moved a generation.  I remember I videotaped "All the Right Moves" and watched the cold night part a few times.
Craig T Nelson may have been the coach.  I'm not sure.  All I really remember is Lea Thompson.  A fine actress.  She stole the show.
And I just remembered another wonderful (alas, non-football movie) I watched beaucoup times on '80s HBO and Cinemax.   The Hitcher with Rutger Hauer (of Blade Runner fame) and either Lea Thompson or Jennifer Jason Leigh (I can't remember which).   The role wasn't quite as revealing but it was quite compelling.
Now I'm thinking of 1980s HBO and Cinemax.   Cost $45/month which seemed outrageous but was worth every penny.
Lisa Bonet in Angel Heart
Kim Bassinger in just about anything
Rachel Ward
ah... the 80s.

All the Right Moves is an 80s teen exploitation classic for sure.  Not up at the top of the mountain like Risky Business, but yeah, Leah Thompson.  Wowza.

Now I feel like I really missed out and need to watch this.   It was Nelson as Coach from what I saw in the  movie info.  I'll have to pay attention and see if it ever pops up on my streaming or cable options some day.

My earliest memory of Leah Thompson was from Howard the Duck, which was apparently about the age I started paying attention to movies and remember watching that one many times.
