I guess if I had watched Friday Night Lights it would be more interesting but wasn't Friday Night Lights based on a real team - at least originally?
I can't think of too many fictional football characters. I guess I could play along with non-football characters. Let me think of some of the less obscure characters...
Nick Carraway of the Great Gatsby. A bit of a snob, raised by his father to overcome his snobbery, but still very judgmental at first and even in the end, despite attempts to accept the questionable behaviors of his cousin, her husband, and friend. He strikes me as a strong safety (who can also punt), coming out of a traditionally affluent school - like Westlake or Highland Park. I'd say he'd end up at Baylor.
Holden Caulfield of Catcher in the Rye. Poor student, likes red, lacks purpose, resents snobs and phonies. Inside, slot, possession receiver. Heavily recruited by Kliff Kingsbury. Tech material through and through.
Robert Jordan, aka Ingles, disenchanted, phlegmatic freak. I see him in a Brecklyn Hager, LB/DE hybrid role for the Texas Longhorns. Of course, he'll probably end up suspended and maybe even transfer to Tarleton State.
Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde's the Picture of Dorian Gray. QB for OU in the Jason White mold. Never grows old. When is his eligibility ever going to end?
Tom Joad from The Grapes of Wrath. Killer, country boy, loner who accepts responsibility. Sounds like a left tackle for Oklahoma State.
That's the best I can do with this topic. Sorry.
