You play the team in front of you, but Southern was never going to be much of a test. That's by design, and a decent plum for dominating the regular season.
Fairfield and ASU burned through any pitching they might have had fighting against each other. ASU got to face Texas the next day. Fairfield went and fought through 2 more games (including the ASU rematch 9-7) and arrived at last evening contest completely spent. Texas didn't swing the bat, shouldn't have, and stood there while Fairfield walked, plunked, or WPed all the runs they'd need.
The bottom 3rd of the order is still sort of wasted outs, but it was good to see the team do what it needed to do offensively.
Meanwhile, in the Gainesville, UF is out. South Alabama and South Florida will resume today. If South Alabama prevails (they're up 4-0 in the 5th), I suppose they'll do it over again for the opportunity to travel to Austin this weekend.
