Wed May 11 (tonight)

  • Play in team A: Vermont vs Manhattan
  • Play in team B: Robert Morris vs Delaware

The two play in games were about as lopsided as they could be.

First the Vermont Catamounts absolutely annihilated Manhattan 15-3. As a reward they will play #1 Maryland, where they will be lucky to keep it as respectable as Manhattan did against them.

Then the Delaware Blue Hens obliterated Robert Morris 20-8. Now they will be cannon fodder for #2 Georgetown.

Both Manhattan and Robert Morris were non-champions that got hot and won their conference tournaments, MAAC and ASun respectively. RMU finished second behind the Utes, and Manhattan was a game behind a pair of co-champions.
Vermont on the other hand ran away with the America East titles, while Delaware was in the colonial where half the teams were 3-2, while the other half were 2-3. They had the best overall record of the three co-champions though, and won the tournament of course.

Johnny Hopkins was the lone Big Ten Casualty in round one, losing to Duke.

Northwestern obliterated Central Michigan, Rutgers put a pretty good whooping on St Joe's, and Michigan took down the Domers rather handily. Maryland of course had a bye.

Michigan and Northwestern will play each other on Sunday. The Wildcats defeated the Wolverines 12-9 during the regular season. The Terps will have to settle for a rekindling of their old Duke rivalry, instead of another thumping of J Hopkins. Rutgers will play Stony Brook as an underdog, and surviving that would put them up against the UNC-Virginia winner.

It isn't going to be the Wolverines. Northwestern defeated them 15-12.  The Terps rolled Duke 19-6. Rutgers face planted vs Stony Brook. So down to the usual two.

The most lopsided contest was N Carolina over Virginia 24-2. :o

The Nebraska softball team (40-14) claimed the Big Ten Tournament title after beating No. 23 Michigan (36-16)  3-1 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon. This marked the Huskers first Big Ten Tournament title since joining the conference and first conference tournament title since 2004.

Biggest upset was Georgetown losing by one goal to Delaware.

The Ivy League all held serve except for Harvard and Brown.

Maryland and Rutgers advance, along with Virginia from the Acc as the two time defending NC.

In the Quarterfinals:
  • Maryland blasted Florida 18-5
  • BC defeated Loyola MD 20-13
  • Northwestern roughed up Syracuse 15-4
  • UNC edged Stony Brook 8-5

In the Semifinals Maryland plays BC, while Northwestern plays UNC.

So it could be an all ACC Final, an all Big Ten final, or one of each.
