Sure, I don't like the flopping either.  The Euro teams (aside from Italy) have always tended to do it less than the South American teams, which is one reason I've tended to prefer Euro soccer.  But these days they all seem to do it more than before.

Of course there are things I don't like about American football either-- including the fake injury/flopping we see from various teams' defenses when they're trying to slow down the offense.  And terrible PI calls.  And terrible roughing the passer calls.  And terrible targeting calls.  And terrible holding/lack of holding calls.

I see.  That makes more sense. 

Speaking as a soccer referee, happy trails. He was fortunate not to get a second yellow earlier immediately after his first yellow for the initial dissent. The point of the yellow (a "caution") is to put you on notice that you are on thin ice. You can't make that play (the one that got him sent off) when you are already on a caution. No controversy at all about the send off (red, for the second yellow).

And bigger picture, Argentina was getting away with a lot of BS in that game. They could have had many more yellows, and likely one or two more reds. They lost because they played a better team, and they played dirty to try to even the game out. Which, unfortunately, worked. That, and Spain not having particularly good aim with most of its chances.

I did watch most of the game, since I completely F'd up my hand and there was no going on the lake.  Motor wouldn't turn over, so I grabbed some cruddy old pliers to tighten the battery cables, arced my wedding ring when I turned too far and hit both battery posts with the pliers.

My secretary said gold melts at 1000+ degrees.  Never heard my own flesh sizzling before, interesting.

Anyhoo, I was glad Spain scored.  It would have been tragic had the team that never even had gotten a single shot on goal to that point ended up winning on penalty kicks, after being absolutely dominated.

Since this is the World Cup thread, has anyone noticed when travelling in Europe, all steak is either rare or well done?  You say mid rare, it's rare.  You say mid well, it's well.  Pink is not an option, and I've eaten at some good places in England, Scotland, France, Netherlands, and Greece.  It's essentially done, which is well done, or not done, which is rare
