Wisconsin (1-3, 3-4) at Michigan State (1-3, 3-4) Post Game
« on: October 10, 2022, 11:51:01 AM »
Fox has the coverage at 4PM Eastern.

The Badgers are banged up all over the field. Last week was the 5th different OL combination in 6 games. They responded well to the task, and it was by far the best performance they have had this season.

RB is now thinner with the loss of Chez Mellusi, who was RB2. Backup QB is a true freshman. TE room is really thin.

Sounds like MSU is pretty banged up too.

Sparty hasn't much in the way of a pass defense.  It could be another career day for Mertz.

God it sucks to lose Chez. He’s a really nice second tailback.

I had weekend plans canceled, so I guess I’m gonna go to Badger bar to watch this. Need to delve in to find reasons to be nervous.

I'd live with losing a #2 RB

I'll put it here, because reasons.
A few weeks back, I shared my surprise that MSU was around the top 10.  It was met with the normal shittiness.

I guess my Peter-tingle was right.

similar to my surprise that Florida was anywhere near the top 10 after they beat a pretty meh Utah team at home on a last second fluke play in a game Florida realistically should've lost.

Gonna watch it at home. Over-the-air antenna comes tomorrow. Game is on Fox (somehow).

Who all does your team have a missing these days? (i’m reading the application right at MSU was banged up?)

It's all on defense.  At one point 7 of MSU's opening night starters, including the DL, LB, and DB captains were all out.  It got so bad that a true freshman who wasn't even on the travel roster (Zion Young) at Washington, was STARTING two weeks later at Maryland.

That said, the defense has been ravaged.  The offense has been largely healthy.  Jayden Reed was out, and looked well below 100% when he returned a couple weeks ago, and granted he's the best player on offense, but he's the only injury of note on that side of the ball.  So on one hand, the defense has been crushed beyond anything I can ever recall.  But the offense has basically been as healthy as you could hope for, and has scored exactly 2 TDs, both in garbage time, both with the backup QB in, over the past 3 weeks.

So, have injuries taken the defense from bad to horrible?  Seems so.  I think more from a pre-snap adjustment standpoint, considering the 3 guys responsible for that haven't finished a game since the season opener.  I think the rest of the injuries have maybe just limited depth/experience.  But would it matter with the offense underperforming this badly?  I doubt it.  Maybe the Minnesota and Maryland games would have been a little closer.  Because while Jayden Reed is the best player on the team, I would also argue that WR is the deepest position on the team, and WR is the most contingent on other positions spot on the roster.  So I don't think this offense would have looked at all better with him

I don't recall you sharing that at the time.  I must have missed it.

I just want to see more progress. The play-calling last week sounded like it was really well planned.

Looking forward to seeing some games on TV!!
