I made the vote based upon staff in place today.   Clearly any school that would land a coach like Urban would jump the pack.

The reason I split the polls was because of sort of that exact reason.  Most of those non helmets have a better chance in the next 2-3 years.  But if you don't see a break through in that time frame, then the helmets seem like the safe bet.  So it almost changed the question as to whether you saw it as a short term or long term question.

If you are hoping to someday be like the Gophers, you might not be a helmet.

Correct.  One very good season isn't something to aspire to.  But I bet that there are quite a few helmet school that wish they had Fleck.

After a great run at Western Michigan....Fleck is proving that he isn't just a flash in the pan.  I shudder to think what he could accomplish at one of those helmets schools.

Maybe, but there's no way the "shtick" and personal branding would fly at a helmet school. Think USC is going to let him put "ROW" everywhere or plaster oars on their helmets? Not a chance.

Hell, would not even go over in Madison or Iowa City. Bielema won a lot in Madison and half or more of the fanbase couldn't stand the guy. And he was nowhere close to what PJ is.

And the Gopher fans say Amen.Fleck maybe Goophy but BB turned into a real steaming pile.He should have said little and got on with the job of coaching but he couldn't help popping off.Unprovoked I might add

That's all true.  At some point however....I'd wonder if a helmet school would be willing to say screw it.

And fortunately....the Gophers dropped the oar from the helmet this past season.  Thank God for that.

Seriously.  It looked very bad and I'm guessing that the backlash was enough to have it removed.

helmet schools will do just about anything
