Interesting article about an MIT researcher who is working on ways to repurpose spent nuclear waste to extract additional power generation capability--trying to turn it from a liability into a resource.

Lake Michigan's average high temperatures vary significantly by month, rising from the low 30s°F in winter (January/February) to the mid-70s-80s°F in summer (July/August), then cooling in fall, with peak warmth in July/August and coldest in January, reflecting typical Great Lakes seasonal patterns. For example, highs might be around 32°F in January, jump to 69°F in May, peak near 83°F in July, and fall to 60°F by October.

It will get into the 80's in the Southeast end (think New Buffalo). Definitely not on the West side. 

Warmest I ever saw it (in my 25 years of boating experience) by us was 74 (for a few days).

You gotta do some research, BB (or go on actual experience).

It's no farther from Chicago than Kenosha. 

You chose to port in Kenosha over New Buffalo.

1 hour to Kenosha.

So you had a big nice boat on lake Michigan that you could sleep on, and you didn't even explore the lake? You just hoovered around the shores of Kenosha?

Did you also buy a motorhome so that you could camp in your own neighborhood?

I have a travel trailer and have periodically used it to camp next door to my house.

Of course I've also taken it to Florida, New Mexico, and all over Texas.

But I've never tried to captain it on any of the Great Lakes.

We took a lot of trips. At least one per year, and we'd hit multiple spots and been to many of them multiple times.

Trips like this are greatly affected by weather. You have to build in time before and after, because piloting through storms and big seas is not smart, unless you wish to die.

I regret not being able to get up to Traverse and Charlevoix. Ran out of time.

BB can figure out the place names we've been to, since he's so smart.
