That's also a big issue- when a player is stubborn and wants to play a position he's not best suited for. You tell them whatever you have to in order to get them on campus, and then give them a shot at the position they want and then just move them later imo.
That's how Michigan got Bredeson.

I don’t buy this. They got him because his older brother was already at Michigan.

Harbaugh is incapable of this. All he had to do to keep AJ Dillon was tell him he’d get a shot at RB and wouldn’t. AJ Dillon would’ve been by far the best RB Michigan has had in almost 20 years. Ben Bredeson isn’t even close to being that as an OL. Hell he wasn’t even the best OL in his class. Mike Onwenu was.

UW recruited him as a guard. He wanted to play tackle.

The brother thing helped for sure - don't get me wrong. But he would have been UW had they recruited him as a tackle.

He did it with Brian Cole, or was that Hoke?  Didn't work out either way

And how Wisconsin got David Edwards.

Haha. Edwards was a HS QB and was recruited to UW to play TE. He just never stopped growing.

Brian Cole was a Hoke commit that stayed with Harbaugh. Probably the only highly rated one that did. Damien Harris, George Campbell, and all the others bailed.

Cole got kicked out of Michigan, played at some obscure junior college, then transferred to Mississippi State and his first year there only played in a few games before having a season ending injury. He really only had a solid senior year of production for his entire college career. He still wound up getting drafted in the 7th round just because he did so well at the combine.

Yeah, Iowa recruited him as an OT. He cited longterm health concerns about putting all that weight on his body as the reason he chose to play TE at UW over OT at Iowa. A year later, he's playing OT at UW. Pretty classic example of telling the kid what he wants hear.

He really wanted to be a QB in college. Could you imagine that? Pretty tough to stop a QB sneak.

It's amazing how he grew. He just could not stop. In HS, he never lifted and never ate breakfast. He was 215 pounds.

Not surprising but disappointing.  Didn’t play is senior year of HS due to moving/eligibility

no spring or camp or cupcakes to get reps so he never got a single game snap.
