The lovebug plague has been upon us for a few weeks now. Those pests play hell with the front end of a vehicle, and I was out of turtle wax when it started, so I didn't do my hack of piling car wax on the front and waiting until the ordeal passes so I can easily and gently wash everything off. Looks ridiculous, saves a TON of elbow grease and possibly the car's paint.
For those unfamiliar, those bugs can take the paint off a ride if left on too long, particularly if they bake in the hot sun (which they've been doing). I finally washed the front of my truck yesterday evening, but they were caked on there so good that it will take several more tries and probably a sponge with more texture to scrape their disgusting bug-guts off.
My question is, does anybody know of any chemicals that are friendly to car paint but good for getting those things off? I've heard people say dryer sheets like Bounce can take them off, but I've never tried it. Need to do something. Thought a smart chemist and car enthusiast such as CD would know.
