Yeah, from your screen cap you're on the site's mobile version.

They appear on the desktop version.

I see them from my PC, but not my phone.

The lovebug plague has been upon us for a few weeks now.  Those pests play hell with the front end of a vehicle, and I was out of turtle wax when it started, so I didn't do my hack of piling car wax on the front and waiting until the ordeal passes so I can easily and gently wash everything off.  Looks ridiculous, saves a TON of elbow grease and possibly the car's paint.

For those unfamiliar, those bugs can take the paint off a ride if left on too long, particularly if they bake in the hot sun (which they've been doing).  I finally washed the front of my truck yesterday evening, but they were caked on there so good that it will take several more tries and probably a sponge with more texture to scrape their disgusting bug-guts off.

My question is, does anybody know of any chemicals that are friendly to car paint but good for getting those things off?  I've heard people say dryer sheets like Bounce can take them off, but I've never tried it.  Need to do something.  Thought a smart chemist and car enthusiast such as CD would know.

I'm not sure what these things are, either.  We get lots of bugs splatting onto the car.  Mosquitoes, dragonflies, moths, the occasional butterfly or even a grasshopper.

But I've never heard of love bugs.

Austin doesn't have them.  Didn't miss them when I was there.

I thought they were just a western Gulf Coast thing, but apparently Florida and Tennessee have them, judging by 847 and jg's posts.  But I figure bug guts are bug guts, and if you know something that gets other bug guts off of cars, it'd work here too.

I've been through plenty of seasons with them, where they've been even worse on vehicles, but never seen them so numerous they are getting in everyone's homes and businesses like they are this year.  Can't go outside in the evenings without them constantly landing on me and getting caught in my hair.

This is what our vehicles look like:

Except in some cases, way worse.  I had a hack for this this, but I was too late implementing it this year.

That's far worse than what we get here. Season only lasts a few weeks and then they are gone.

can take you off a motorcycle at high speed w/o a full-face helmet
