watched some of the ND game. I know Navy is a service academy and they probably suck, but ND looked impressive. Sam Hartman looked good. ND might be a problem this year bc I think they have a real life QB for the first time in a LOOOOOONG time.
I have them for maybe one of tOSU 2-3 L's this season

Hartmann was that good at WF, he can be even better at ND.  He's a dude.

Alex Grinch and that entire staff should've been fired.
Sadly he should, maybe he caught lightning in a bottle with Mike Leach(RIP) when in the Palouse. Those defenses improved in his 3 seasons there,he was meh in C-BUS splitting duties. Now been at OU/USC for 4 full seasons and he hasn't displayed any improvement with the benefit of being blue bloods. Maybe the focus is on offense but still ya prolly his last season unless the Trojan shows noticeable upgrades on that side of the ball.

Ya know this sounds like us discussing JEEM 3-4 yrs back only on the other side

I watched a bit of the ND-Navy debacle and got bored.  Then I watched baseball, then tried to watch some Vandy, and finally did, it seemed to be a wide open game, I didn't see the end but saw the score.

Maybe Vandy is about as good as a mediocre G5 team this year?

agreed. he's very good. last time I can remember ND having a QB that was actually good is Jimmy Clausen maybe. That was a long time ago. And the rest of the team sucked around Clausen.

Seriously, think about it. Who have their QBs been in the 2010s to present? Tyler Buchner, Drew Pyne, Ian Book, Jack Coan, Brandon Wimbush, Malik Zaire, Everett Golson, Tommy Rees, Dane Crist....yeeesh.

not really. Jeem's defenses weren't atrocious vs everyone. Jeem was pretty solid all-around but having major trouble with one team in particular, Ohio State. His defenses under Don Brown would strangle every team they played and then last game of the year Ohio State would just rip them a new asshole and destroy them. And then the weird COVID year happened and Jeem went 2-4 and then that is when the calls were really going for his head by many in the media and fanbase. The 2-4 COVID year might've been the best thing to ever happen to Jeem though because it started a purge of the roster and he fired 3/4ths of his coaching staff and brought in better coaches.

USC's defense
Best Jurassic Park Pile Of Shit GIFs | Gfycat
yeah the defense is still terrible. it was a pathetic showing vs San Jose State. USC OL was also a joke, Caleb Williams was taking way too much pressures vs a team that should've never been able to lay a glove on him and their run game was honestly just meh. You'd think vs a team like that they'd be able to just run it down their throats for 250 yards at 8 yards per clip, but not even close.

USC's offense and Special teams return teams were way too explosive for a team like San Jose State to ever have a prayer, but that USC defense was honestly atrocious vs an inferior team. I watched most of the game. I don't see how they are going to get through Oregon, Utah, ND, or Washington unscathed. They could lose all 4.

That true frosh Zachariah Branch is a freaking stud. Returned a kick 97 yards for a TD, had some big punt returns which set them up with short fields, and also caught a TD on offense. He's going to be a weapon all year for them on special teams.

USC looks same to me this year as they were last year. They have the best QB in the country, a middling to perhaps even bad OL, weapons galore at WR, good stable of RBs, should have lethal return teams on STs with Branch, and they have a babyshit soft defense that is not going to stop anybody with a pulse.

San Jose State is putting it on that USC D right now. it's 21-14 at half-time. USC ain't making it out of the PAC let alone to the playoff...
watched ND's first drive for a TD then went golfing and out to dinner for an outstanding dry aged New York strip

I've never thought of 14 points at the half as "putting it on" the opposing defense.
maybe they fumbled inside the 10 yard line 4 or 5 times?

Yes- typical overreaction to one game.

San Jose State returned damn near their entire offense from last year- including a very good and experienced QB, O-line and RBs.

USC has a ton of new faces on defense.  They shut down the run- except QB scrambles gave them fits.
The guess here is they will be pretty solid on D as they gain experience. Not world beaters mind you- but solid enough to support a team that can put up 45 on you during a commercial break.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

oh yeah Gunner Kiel, right? he sucked too. ND had LOTTA mid to downright even sucky QBs for last 15 years. Hartman might be the first actual guy they've had at QB in 15 years.
