My dad has an ancient GMC, one of many trucks he has owned of all sorts of brands. Notwithstanding that, he's basically a Ford guy, I think because of a work colleague (maybe former student) who became someone important at Ford. They owned an Explorer for a long time. But they upgraded into an Audi SUV, and now also have a Toyota SUV hybrid. And the ancient GMC pickup.
We owned a Dodge Dart for a long time when I was a kid/teenager, and as a result, and because I'm something of a contrarian--or maybe I just like the underdog--I became a Mopar guy, at least as it related to late-60s mid-sized muscle. I never really got into the big block cars (I'm sure I wouldn't turn down a Camaro with a 427...), but I've always liked the notchback Barracudas circa 1967 or so, but truth be told, my favorite pony car is a 1967 or 68 Camaro. When I was a teenager, 60s Mustangs were a dime a dozen where I lived, but one of our middle school teachers--an old lady with Bride of Frankenstein hair had a gorgeous, green, fastback Mustang; I think it was a '66.
More recently, Ford seemed a little ahead of the curve in improving their maintenance record, and I thought Chevy's styling was somewhere between bland and terrible for most if not all of the 90s. I thought Dodge did a good job breaking the mold on pickup styling when it brought front fenders back in the early 90s, but I have always heard (right or wrong) that Dodge was a laggard on quality control.
When I think of Cadillac, I think of the big boats of the 1980s and the big SUVs of today, but I recognize that it has made some really nice sedans in an era that not many American manufacturers are putting effort into sedans.
But we've become a Honda family. Between the two of us, we've now owned six Hondas and loved them all. In between we snuck in a Mercedes that we really liked, but had to pay way too much, way too soon to fix it, which put us off that brand. (And we're kind of miserly when it comes to buying cars.)
Which is all to say that as between the Big 3, if I had to pick, I suppose I'm a Ford guy, like CD said, because of my parents, but it's a bit like my approach to the Premier League: I have the team I think I like best, but I'm not really worked up about it, and could cheer for another team easily enough in the right conditions.
