We're headed out to CA next month (SD).  I'm taking the wife up to Palm Springs for a few.  I looked at rental car options thinking I might splurge on a convertible.  They were priced at around $750 a week, while I snagged a midsized sedan for $183.  $570 bucks buys some nice wine, not that I'm drinking any more.

Good decision. It's not warm enough in California to drive a convertible, anyway. ;)

And if they have spare convertibles on their lot (they probably will), you'll be able to upgrade into one for $10-20/day.

I've done that a couple times, usually it's an extra hundred a week, which would be fine.  This is with "Payless", which in my experience is only a so so rental car agency.  I prefer Enterprise for various reasons, but prefer saving money even more.

The Hyundai has a sunroof, much as did the GTI, and neither get opened often at all.  I suspect if we had a convertible, the same would be true, even more so.

When my first CTS got long in the tooth, the sunroof would at times stay open, and it happened when my now wife was driving it and it started to rain, she panicked, I had to coach her onto how to close it.  She did not like that car much, it had a tendency for the back end to come around when accelerating (which she liked) and turning, especially in the rain.  Over steer.  Nice to have on a track.

Although that is just for the end of this month. By end of May it should have warmed up.

2022-2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid: Engine Explained

So, apparently this not very sporty CUV has the electric motor between the engine and transmission with some kind of linkage not explained, maybe a viscous coupling?  I really cannot tell at highway speed when the engine cuts off, or even at stop lights.  I can detect a very slight shutter when it kicks back on, usually.  An EV light comes on when the engine cuts off.  It gets better indicated MPGs on the highway if I push it to higher speed and then back off the throttle for a while, especially if that's downhill.  It will "coast" in EV mode for several miles unless I get on the throttle again fairly hard.  It gets its best mpg in the mountains, oddly enough.  Highway mileage drops pretty fast with speed, if I do 80 mph, I'm getting 28 mpg.  If I do 70 mph, it's 33-34.  It is a box shape of course.

Yeah I'll be honest, I saw the SD part and the wine part and thought he was talking about going from SD to the wine country.  I totally missed the PS part.

Well, there's "wine country" in Temecula, which would be on the way between SD and PS...

...probably not any of it that's high-end enough for CD to drink tho :57:

I went to Temecula (TM) a while back, the whole scene was ... unimpressive, high priced mediocre wines.  It ain't Sonoma.  

SD = San Diego, PS = Palm Springs.  Step grandson is graduating HS.  Yay.  Was looking to make something of a trip out of it.
