If you find yourself in Monterey, California, with a decent dinner budget, try Montrio. One of the best meals I've had in a long time.

I find it somewhat amusing how these restaurants describe their fare, it's never just "Red fish", it has to be dressed up, usually with French terms.

My wife bugged me about Bacchanalia for her birthday coming up, would be for 4 people.  Ouch.  I just made a reservation.

Bacchanalia — Star Provisions

They do the same thing of course, and I guess are kinda quasi somewhat French.

Our friend from France is visiting and he's HUGE on the Michelin thing.  He's very picky, we had him over for dinner and were talking about the Stars.  The restaurant Gun Show came up and he said it was the real deal, so I guess we'll try it.

Must-Try American Restaurant in Atlanta, GA | Gunshow

He's never been to Bacchanalia but said he was going this evening, so I'm interested in his comments.  He suggested the three star place in Marseille which we tried for lunch that I really disliked, a lot.  I never told him.

I barely ate anything, the first course was WAY too salty, as in inedible for me.

Well, I'm not sure there's such a thing as a half of a slab. I suspect at that point it's still a slab, but a smaller slab. 

And I'd probably only get the half b/c I'd obviously be saving some room for an entree.

I like a "Greek salad" quite a bit, tangy and spicy a bit.  Feta goes well with it.  I don't recall having anything like that in Greece.  

It is a lot of fun to have "ethnic food" in the country of ... "origin"...

I'm not sure which French dish one would consider particularly French, maybe duck?  Escargot?

I ended up with the veal saltimbocca as a main... It was delicious. 

My wife even tried a little of the salad, and actually liked feta for once. (She's not a feta fan.) The feta was softer and more mild than the crumbles we get from the grocery store for when we make Greek tortellini salad, which I use and she doesn't touch. She might not go for a slab of it, but she enjoyed it and thought it complemented the salad well.

Authentic? Hardly, except for the tomato gravy, but even that has too many things added.

I had a good meal at Outback last night - free bloomin onion and dessert

I always enjoy their Caesar salad, the 8oz sirloin was cooked perfectly (rare) and tender with great flavor - the broccoli was flavorful

paired well with the oil can of Fosters

the lady said the free carrot cake was very good
